How does Hero_x labeling work?

Recently I decided to install a male musketeer skin

So I downloaded one from the Nexus Mods DD Library and extracted it

Installing it like so:

Computer > D: > steam > steamapps > common > DarkestDungeon > dlc > 445700_musketeer > heroes > musketeer

Which it came in the form of:

musketeer_B

Due to it overlapping with the already existing musketeer_B file

I decided to rename it to musketeer_E

When I booted up the game the skin did not appear

So I changed it to musketeer_K

Which made it work for some reason

I've also had the same problems with other heroes when trying to install skins for them manually.

One for example being an arbalest skin set

that had skins labeled:

arbalest_E to arbalest_L

But only arbalest_E and arbalest_F appear in game.

Tldr; when i manually installed a skin it was labeled musketeer_E but it didn't work, renaming it to musketeer_K made it work though

My questions are

1. How does the labeling system work?

2. Does the labeling system matter? Can I deviate from the normal way of labeling it and change it to "crusader_GAP" or "crusader_A1"?
