[LE] Creation Kit cannot properly compile papyrus scripts(?); Blank error results

Good Early Morning (Atleast for me.). I just recently wanted to take a crack at custom followers using scripts instead of the clunky(?) way I used to (I think I relied on the dialogue views and papyrus fragments or something, its been quite some time since I fiddled with it so my memory is in shambles.), and when I went to add a new script I quickly realized that despite creating several (after the first one didn't show up), they all never showed up as added to the script tab. Nor did they show up in script selection. I would also have a blank Papyrus Errors popup, which was immediately curious. Even more curious was I was told there were scripts with the same name as the ones I was attempted to create a second time, as they had never shown up in the CK.

I looked into my scripts source folder and there were .psc files, but no .pex files. I did half a dozen or so things: I tried running CK both in and out Mod Organizer 2. Same problem. I reinstalled Skyrim and the CK both. Same problem. I even had taken a perhaps too drastic measure and reinstalled both Skyrim and the CK to another drive, just in case. Same problem. To a smaller extent I tried following the Hello World tut on the Creation Kit wiki to the letter (up until the blank Papyrus Error occured again). Same problem, but I tried it again and I have a screen shot for that. (See attachment.)

I don't know what else to write here, so I'll give point out I have Windows 10 Professional (64-bit) which I believe is up to date (which may be the problem, so I've heard in regards to other programs malfunctioning). Which is a recent install, but I believe even last year when I still had Windows 7 Pro (Also 64-bit) the reason I stayed away from this way of setting followers up is because I may have had similar issue. Perhaps Papyrus (-and CK by extension) just never worked properly with me.

I hope I did this attachment correctly. I haven't posted directly on the forums yet (despite being around for what is quickly approaching 5 years) and its been years I've posted on a forum in general.

It looks like after installing CK your vanilla scripts are removed, so the compiler doesn't have the source to work with.


In your Skyrim directory where the "SkyrimLuncher.exe" is or "skse_loader.exe" if you are using SKSE, there must be a "Scripts.rar" file, a back up of your original vanilla scripts.

Extract all those files to their corresponding directory destinations:

For SLE is:

pex in data > scripts

psc in data > scripts >source


For SSE is:

Default SSE PEX files -- Data > Scripts

Default SSE PSC files -- Data > Source > Scripts

If you have not changed the source folder location in the Creation Kit ini file.


If this doesn't help then i don't know what else might be the issue....

Its a big oof then since that was one of things I already tried troubleshooting with, I just forgot to mention it. Most of the people who have issues with CK being unable to make / compile new papyrus (from multiple attempts to Google search a solution to my own problem) had that problem, but mine clearly isn't that since for both SE and Classic I've tried that already. I suppose I should also mention I have this issue in SE as well strangely.

I'm sorry. I did say that I tried that already, but I wasn't too clear about that I suppose. Though through some act of god, for better or worse, a clean install of Skyrim did manage to fix it.

I would have came back and responded earlier, but my external hard drive died and I spent the better part of yesterday trying to get anything off it. That's where the clean install of Skyrim comes into the picture. So the problem is solved, even though I would have very much liked to know what was causing it in the first place incase it were to happen again.

EDIT: Nevermind, suddenly it doesn't work again. Its giving me blank papyrus error logs again and failing to generate a .pex. I guess that test compile I did was a one hit wonder, apparently.

I am able to compile scripts when just Skyrim.esm is active. I believe this means there is something is going on with my other masters. I do not believe Update.esm (Actually a fleeting memory is telling me maybe you aren't supposed to have this as a master.) or Dawnguard.esm would cause this. So its probably the master of Race Compatibility that is causing the issue. That or its a roll D20 as to rather it works or not, I certainly do not know.

EDIT: No wait I just failed trying to compile a Reference Alias script, its a D20. Its totally a D20. Probably. Possibly.

Sorry for the necro but I coudn't find anything else online pertaining to this issue, I've deleted my original "rant" post, I'm having a bad day.

 

In my case I was using MO and apparently the script compiler doesn't like that. I put my .esp in the root skyrim data directory and ran CK by itself, outside MO.
