New Download Changes

I don't usually write in forums. I've been on Nexus since 2011. It's one of the few sites I whitelist because I care about the site and want it to succeed.

But the recent changes to "incentivize" the premium subscription are just too much. Not because a 5 second wait is too long, or the few extra clicks, or the one download at a time, but all of them together. It's the mindset of "If we screw over the customer enough, they'll give us more money." You're charging us for a solution to a problem you created. Nexus made the site more annoying to use and proceeds to ask us for more money to have things back to how they were.

Nexus, instead of making your subscription service more appealing and attracting users who "want" what you're offering you've instead punished those who can't (or won't) pony up for something they used to get for free. You offered a great service and have removed what made it so successful in the first place: It's user-friendliness . Especially since there was no announcement, no explanation, nothing. A surprise addition no one wanted or asked for. You went from "How can we make the site better for users" to "How can we make it just annoying enough to get them to pay for it".

With the AAA gaming industry, we expect them to be milking us for everything, screwing us over, and introducing shady practices to get us to spend more money. I don't expect that from Nexus. You've removed aspects from the service and dangle it in front of us like a carrot on a stick.

You can disagree with me, that's fine. I've seen the few other threads of people jumping to the defense of Nexus. I'm just saying how I feel. I don't feel like a valued user, I don't feel like I'm seen as anything but a shut wallet to be pried open, I don't feel like Nexus cares about me. And maybe they don't. But when your customers don't feel appreciated, we'll go elsewhere or go without.

So, for now, I'm going without. It's a shame, Nexus. A damn shame. I get it, you need money. That's not my fault though, so don't take it out on me.

this, so much this

the site is now MANY times more annoying to use since I tend to download many files at once from this site, I'm currently downloading a mod that has 8 different parts that need to be downloaded separately, so now I have to go through that popup song and dance 8 times to download one mod

this is going to be infuriating when I start modding an install of skyrim again as I install hundreds of mods for that game

that popup needs to go

A member since 2011, 8 years, and your very first post is because something annoys you that you get for free.

OK...

also, I was considering going premium for a while now, the site has served me well, but if you insist on stuff like this then I am never giving you a single cent

A minor inconvenience for using the site for free for 8 to 14 years, don't you think?

You still have access to everything everybody else does, just that you have to look at a different screen.

We heard that from a bunch of people in the other thread that have been members for 8 to 14 or so years, who were "Just about to go premium, UNTIL The Nexus changed this or that"

It happens every time Nexus changes something on the site, like the new layout, switching from NMM to Vortex etc...

funny how a little change that intentionally make people's experience worse than it was a few days ago for no reason other than "give me money" DOESN'T ENDEAR THEM TO GIVE THEM MONEY

I suspect they had to make the change because out of 18,000,000 members, they only have 126,000 who bought a premium membership.

Bandwidth costs a lot of money

and they're not going to get more with tactics like this, they didn't even have the balls to tell people they were going to do it, they just sprung it on us without warning

Oh, there's something that was mentioned in the other thread about Lifetime Premium Subscription, (that's what I have), and it never dawned on me WHY it was a good deal, until somebody broke it down over the years, rather than seeing it as one lump sum.

You can either see it as a one time payment, or a decreasing amount per day, over the course of each year

I got Premium in 2008, for $75, one time payment, so in 2008 that means that Nexus costs .20 cents a day for the first year

The next year 2009 it cost .10 cents a day

2010 the cost is .06 cents a day

2011 .05 cents a day

right now, 11 years later, the Nexus costs me a penny a day, or .018 a day

It works out to be cheaper than a monthly $2.99 subscription, because the monthly subscription stays $2.99/mo or .09 cents a day, whereas the lifetime subscription starts out at .20 cents a day for 1 year, then drops to .10 the second year, and well below the $2.99/mo subscription after that, to .06, .05 etc etc

So, savings-wise, the lifetime ends up being the most economical.

Since you've been a member since 2005, if you had gotten a lifetime premium in 2005, Nexus would be 0.014 cents per day for you right now, with all the benefits of Premium.

ok, let me put it this way, I dont have the internet speed to take advantage of the uncapped rates, I live out in the country so I'm lucky if I can reach 2mb a second on a good day, and the ads never bothered me(most of the time), so what the F*** would I be paying for, it has no value for me which is why it was taking me so long to consider it, because I dont get anything for my money

I was literally considering giving them some money out of sheer generosity until my experience was made objectively worse because I wasn't paying them, even tough I was putting up with the ads (that sometimes made the site unusable) to support the site in that way, so yeah, suddenly I'm not feeling so generous any more
