Fallout New Vegas not using controller?

You can launch the game via Steam and still use your mods. Are you using NVSE via Vortex? Can you try launching the game without NVSE to see if that's the problem?

This may or may not be related because my issue is with The Witcher 3 rather than Fallout NV, but the issue is the same: if I launch the game directly from Steam, my PS4 controller works great -- but if I launch it via Vortex, the controller doesn't do anything at all in-game. How can I launch the game via Steam but still use the Vortex-managed mods?

Always remember, once Vortex installs your mods it is done.

It never needs to be running when you run your game.

Start your game as you usually would. Your mods will be there.

I've had odd problems with Steam and my Xbox controller recently. For some games I have to actually go into Big Picture mode on Steam to get it to launch with the controller.

I just used a Steam Controller we have at the office and didn't have any problem launching Skyrim SE with it.

Thank you!!! This was the answer. I really didn't think I could use the installed mods unless I launched via Vortex. All is well. Thanks again.

  • 1 year later...

I had a problem where my GOG version of Fallout NV stopped recognizing my Xbox controller after I switched to mouse and keyboard, as in, there wasn't even an option in the setting to turn a controller on/off when i tried to change it back an hour later. I fixed this by deleting "fallout_prefs.ini" and "fallout.ini" which can be found in C:\Users\yourname\Documents\My Games\FalloutNV. (these files are replaced next time you launch NV) I imagine this works on steam versions too.

Sorry to grave dig thread but I couldn't find any solutions to this problem on the internet so hopefully this might help somebody out.
