How To Extract BSA Files Using FO3 Archive

There are only 3 files included in that archive.

FO3Archive (Shortcut)

FO3Archive Readme (Text Document)

FO3Archive (Executable Jar File)

.lnk = Shortcut

It is also the file with the dominate icon of a blue-purple gear.

How does one accomplish step 9? I'm fairly new to modding (in regard to the fact that it took me months to figure out how to add the Fallout3.esm file into the GECK [sad isn't it?]) so I've never heard of NifSkope before. What is NifSkope and, again, how do you do step 9?

What is NifSkope and, again, how do you do step 9?

NifSkope is a tool used to manipulate game models which are in "NIF" format. It is an essential tool for modders and quite handy even for just players using mods to fix issues such as hard-coded texture paths.

NifSkope Configuration

1. Start NifSkope

2. Click Render, Settings

3. Click the button called "Auto Detect Game Paths" which should add Oblivion's Data folder.

4. If you extracted Oblivion's BSA files with BSA Commander, also add that path by clicking "Add Folder"

5. I also like having a 3rd path which always gets changed each time I download and extract a mod to a temp folder such as C:\Downloads\.

6. Click Render, Settings and make sure "Startup Version" is 20.0.0.5

7. I occasionally change the background color which is also under the Render, Settings dialog box. I prefer using a light tan to match Bethesda's menu inventory color for icon creation purposes.

8. On an as-needed basis, toggle the display of the collision box by clicking Render, Draw Havok.

Just wanted to add an addendum, if you're running into "can't find path" errors whilst trying to extract running vista/7 its because you haven't set the link to "Run as administrator" hopefully if you're deep enough into modding to be playing around with this tool, you know how to change that :)
