Hadvar and Ralof are both good people. Good ol' boys you might say. Any perceived notions of "good" or "evil" on either of their parts has more to do with their personality and their personal situations more than them actually aligning themselves with good or evil. Hadvar tries to reason with the first couple of Stormcloaks because he's a Legion man, and he's taught to fight as a unit. 4 or more is better than 2. He would also recognize that the Dragon is a bigger issue then a rather petty war.

Ralof would rather strike it out alone with you than try to reason with the Imperials, namely because he has no reason to trust them (they were trying to execute him afterall), and because he adheres to a more classical Nord attitude, ie, fight fight fight and never bed with your enemies and all that.

Their employers are a different story however and there tends to be a lot of gray that brings in questions of loyalty, honor, dignity, and such when dealing with them.

The Thalmor though are a right evil bunch of bastard elven children.

That Imperial Captain is pretty cold.
You think?

I always like her support and validation of Nord culture, standing up to her superiors to remind them it is Ulfric and not the Nords they are fighting.

I think la belling anyone/anything good or evil only works if there is very limited information. The more you get to know anything, the more a simple category does not fit. I suspect that even the Thalmor not stand as pure evil with more information.(Although, I might still kill them on sight...:whistling:)

I'm still wondering if the Imperial was actually evil or good or the Stormcloaks are the evil one.

Not this again.

Looks, it's just politics. There's no good or evil side, just a bunch of people who want one thing and another bunch of people who want something different, and both have some unlikable traits. You are not supposed to see one as morally good and the other as morally bad; you are just supposed to pick whichever side you agree the most with.

(The Thalmor are pretty much Nazi Elves, of course, but it's made pretty clear that even the imperials hate those guys and only put up with them because they have to.)

You got to admit. That Imperial Captain is pretty cold. I always want to side with the stormcloaks to get back at her :pirate:

Which is actually a kinda sneaky trick by Bethesda, in restrospect, to give you and empathic reason to go Stormcloak.

(Chosing Ralof also gives you much better loot, though that is neither here nor there.)

I always like her support and validation of Nord culture, standing up to her superiors to remind them it is Ulfric and not the Nords they are fighting.

I like that there are two female Imperial captains in this game who are basically opposites. Wonder if they knew each other.

I'd consider them to be fairly evil, with their goal of destroying all mankind so that they can unmake reality. In my opinion, I'd even place them right next to Alduin as threats to Tamriel (and Nirn).

On Topic: Both the Stormcloaks and Imperials believe they are doing the right thing, although as long as the Civil War continues, the Aldmeri benefit (less men for them to kill). The only "right" thing to do is to bring a swift end to the war as soon as possible.

Both sides have good intentions, but different views on how to get there.

The stormcloaks are more impulsive and would rather fight and die for their freedom, while the legion is more tactical and prefers to live to fight another day.

The only reason why they are fighting eachother is because Skyrim can't do both of these things at the same time.

I think neither side is good or evil. A united Empire is stronger with Skyrim as a province, its weakened in its position against the Aldmeri Dominion with Skyrim in dissarray or independant...both the empire and the Thalmor know this. Ulfric...based on talking to with him near the end of the main quest (I played the Imperial side) truely thought he was trying to do what was right for Skyrim. He wanted his people to be strong and proud as a nation and be allowed to freely worship Talos. He felt the Empire had sold them out to the Thalmor and was taking what he saw only true course of action as an honorable Nord. On the flip side of that had the Empire not agreed to ban the worship of Talos the war with the Aldmeri Dominion would have drug on for years if not decades destroying both sides. As I understand it the Thalmore had captured the Imperial City and the Emperor retook it at great cost effectively destrying both sides armies in the process and their ability to continue the war. Thus the original terms of the Aldmeri Dominion were accepted as the peace treaty with large portions of Hammerfell being relenquished and the worship of Talos banned, instead of tribute payments the Thalmor were given free reign to root out Talos worship in the Empire.

So in the end...who's right and who's wrong? To preseve the Empire the Emperor agreed to a peace treaty that was unfavorable to the Empire to end a long and bloody war, essentially the same terms he initially rejected when they were outright demands of a foriegn power four years earlier. He and his empire had stood their ground and bloodied the nose of the bully but had taken a beating doing it. To presrve his people's honor and their god Talos, Ulfic and the Stormcloaks were were willing to fight for what they precieved to be their rights and against what they saw as a betrayal by the Empire.

The right side...is the one you feel strongly enough about to support but I don't neccesarily think that automatically makes the other side evil.
