I'm running into an issue where my game will freeze under a very specific condition:  When I'm playing normally and get killed in any way, I will be able to load up my last save or quicksave and begin playing again like normal.  The only thing is as soon as I press the button to open my pipboy, the game will freeze and I have to ctrl+shift+esc to end the game.  I've double checked my ini settings, my master files are cleaned, and got my enb running smoothly, so I'm fairly certain we can rule these out, so that leaves a specific mod.  Can anyone help me find the culprit?

I'd first try to uninstall anything pip boy related. Then anything interface related. I also see some patches, don't know what they're doing. The UF4P is buggy and I would not use it at all.

So...... don't die.

Ok, I'm joking.  Sorry, I'm getting sleep and slap happy.

Real quick.  Before you start that.  After you end up getting killed, try shutting down the game, and reload.  See if that cures it.  If it doesn't, then disable everything that you can, start up under a clean load, and then save.  Then try it again with your mods reactivated.

If that STILL does it, come back into the game, transfer to a different cell via a COC console command.  Like coc sanctuary or coc redrocket (not entirely sure either of those are 100% right.  I'm sorry, I'm fading fast!)  wait a minute or two, and then open your pip.

See if that cures it.

If not, you may have to start doing the disable testing like Aeons is talking about.

The shut down / reload trick seemed to work for a couple seconds, as I was able to open up the pipboy and switch weapons and such, but the game still froze about 5 seconds after I closed it.  Maybe it's actually a combat-related thing?  I checked the log file and there seems to be a ton of scripts that are not working correctly:

I'm off to disable the interface and pipboy mods now and see if that does anything.

After much testing, the issue persists even after disabling all interface mods. The closest I got was the game crashing to the main menu instead of an outright freeze or CTD.

I read on another thread that it may be either the raider overhaul or super mutant redux mods.

Another option might be for me to get one of those "death alternative" mods.

So When you load an older save without dying and then open the pip boy this does not happen? That is really strange. If this is the case then it seems that dying causes a bug that persists in other saves. I've never heard of this before.

If you stop the application and restart it the bug does not come up?

Both old saves and recent saves work perfectly fine so long as I haven't died, but even my oldest saves (and new game saves) have this issue where the game freezes when reloaded post-death.  Restarting the game works, but only until I've died and reloaded the save.

I think this issue might be caused by the way the game reloads after the player death.  One time, I was killed by ghouls and paused the game and hit "load" before the game did it automatically and was able to play the manually reloaded save just fine.

do you press tab to open the pip boy? Does it happen when you open the map for instance as well or is it a specific part of the pip boy?

[Edit] Ok, after some pretty extensive looking through all that, I see a couple of things that are happening, when your game is reverting.  (IE- You're being resurrected).

1) you're having failures related to 2 factions, Brotherhood of Steel, and Minutemen.  So that's a mod that is giving you trouble.

However, here's the big one.  I'm seeing errors created by WastelandImports, where it cannot function.  I looked up the name of that esp, and it's MohaveImports.  Which, is on your list.

So, I'm thinking the game is trying to recreate an item in your inventory from that mod, when you die.   Since it can't, and then when the game scans for your inventory by activating the pip, that's when you get the crash.

Try a new game without the mohaveimports.esp active, and see if you still have the problem after you die.

If you want a quick, easy, and rather comical way to hasten the death process, you can give this a shot (pun) and just load the item up into your inventory via console command.   https://www.nexusmod...ut4/mods/33320? [/edit]

Ouch.  That is a lot of errors in your scripting.

I'm willing to bet that most of those errors with the Creation club (CC) is stuff that you've never installed, too, isn't it?

That right there is starting to become a problem for more and more people.

However, the script logger can't be used as a reliable tool for finding the actual source of the crash.  Because the logger crashes, right before the game does.  So it doesn't get a chance to record the event.

Ok, this is just a hunch, but if you want to, give this a try.  First, make a backup copy of your game folder.  Copy it to another section of your hard drive, or to a seperate drive if you have one.

If you use a modmanager, use it to uninstall AWKCR.  if you use Vortex, go into the vortex folders, and manually delete out traces of it there.  It will be in C:\Users\XXX\AppData\Local\  ... Vortex.   XXX being the user name that you log into the computer with.  I do not have vortex, which is why I don't have it directly placed in that address.

Download the previous version of AWKCR that was released prior to November 17, 2019.   https://www.nexusmod.../6091?tab=files and MANUALLY install it, not through a modmanager, manually.  (AWKCR doesn't play well with some of the mod managers during the install). (Some programs also have some problems getting the archive to unpack).

Now, also get and use this script - https://www.nexusmod...out4/mods/42497 so that your game version will see mods made for older versions of the game.  Tho that requires f4se, so if you don't have that, you will need it too.

See if that doesn't help out with your crashing.  Also check to see if it gets rid of some of those scripting errors in your log files.

After doing everything in StormWolf01's suggestion  I experienced the following:

Old saves would immediately CTD, probably because of missing assets from mohaveimports.

A new game would load up normally.  I played around for a bit and let a group of ghouls tear me to shreds.  Reloaded the save and played normally for about 5 minutes until I was killed by Mirelurks, so we're making progress here.
After reloading the safe post-second-death, the game froze when I tried bringing up the pause menu- about 5 seconds into playing.

Relaunched the game and was killed by the Mirelurks again.  Game reloaded the save and I went a over 15 minutes without issue.  Seems to be relatively stable now.  Many thanks to all your help, guys!

On a side note, the Wasteland Imports mod has always been one of my favorites and has never given me trouble in the past.  Is there a more stable version that would work, or am I sh*t-outta-sasparilla?
