Fallout 4 suddenly has stutter/trailing and low framerate.

I went to bed last night with no issues with Fallout 4, I woke up today with a stuttering/trailing low framerate on my 50" 4K 60hz TV. I've tried a few things so far.

1. Made sure Fallout4prefs.ini had iPresetInterval=0. It was at 1, but changing it to 0 made the fps skyrocket to the hundreds, but the stutter was still there.

2. Limited fps to 60, but the stutter was still there.

3. Disabled VSync with no improvement.

4. Enabled VSync with no improvement.

5. Scoured Google looking for assistance, but didn't see anything other than what I had already tried.

6. Tried playing other games to be sure it was an issue confined to Fallout 4, it was.

I'm out of ideas, I just want the game to go back to the way it was before, liquid smooth 60 fps @ 1080P.

Thanks.

Glad to hear that you got it figured out and fixed.

Kudos given for posting what was wrong, and how you fixed it  Thanks much for sharing that to anybody else that might read this.

Yeah, windows can be a royal pain.

Indeed. I think Microsoft does that kind of thing on purpose. Likely this was a result of Windows automatically updating some driver...... A 'feature' that I REALLY wish MS had left up to the owner of the machine.....

I'm just glad I thought to give it another look, before I did my usual method of just deleting the game.

Also, I understand the need to share the fix. People that don't do that can go eat a boiled boot.

Y'all take care.

HY - Precisely. The latest iteration of windows... or rather, I should say Windows update assistant and all it's subsequent brothers and cousins are officially a virus under most definitions.

*cough* get windows 8 *cough cough*

ArmoredTroll - come see us before you do the delete. The way that bethesda has been updating the game here recently, you might be better off avoiding that if you can.

But yeah, totally agree with you on that. It's not fair to the community.

I'll also add in the people that you give them some recommendations about trying to fix their problem, and they NEVER report back on whether it worked or not....
