Downloads fail with internet interruption

I had a whole bunch of mods cued up to download through vortex, about 80. Then my internet cuts out, and immediately I get a flood "download failed" messages. Internet comes back a few minutes later but now I have to go through find all the mods that hadn't downloaded again.

 

Why doesn't vortex just pause the downloads in the event of a lost connection?

It's a real pain in the ass.

 

Edit: It seems I have misunderstood the purpose of this forum. This is not to actually report bugs. That's for the bug report thing in the vortex app itself. Maybe actually point that out when you list the wiki, discord, and forums as the only support options on the pinned post in the subreddit and don't even mention the bug report thing in the app itself. DON'T EVEN MENTION IT.

 

You're still all dicks about how you're "helping." You don't always have to assume it was user error. Any of you could have also pointed out the vortex bug report thing but you didn't.

You shouldn't be queuing up 80 mod downloads.

That's why your internet cut out.

 

Since you're a free user, your download speed is capped either at 1 mb/s (if you use an add blocker), or 2 mb/s if you don't use an ad blocker.

 

I didn't know it was possible to queue downloads considering the "Slow Download Speed" choice screen for every download.

Cueing mods has absolutely nothing to do with it my internet connection. If anything the speed cap would be exactly why the internet should not be cutting out when I'm downloading, there's no chance of me using too much bandwidth or anything. I've done it plenty before with more mods and no interruptions.

 

The speed cap means that there's literally no difference between having the mods cued and repeatedly going back to download more in terms of my internet connection. There'd be no additional demands on my connection.

 

I just want to choose my mods and let the manager run in the background.

And if you must know the internet connection stayed off after restarting the computer and restarting the modem. I had to wait for it to come back, trouble shooter said it was a problem with the domain name service. Unless you think that downloading at 2mb/s is so demanding that the ISP shut me down I don't see there's any grounds to make such a claim. There was no correlation between the modding and the internet cutting out I had already downloaded and cued far more than that number on that same night.

Well, queuing 80 mods and expecting them all to download at once in't going to work.

But since you know better, then you obviously can solve your problem yourself.

It's more than likely the the downloads links Vortex fetched for the queued items expired. I cannot recall the life of the links off the top of my head but it's possible the downloads were waiting so long they expired.

I have Vortex 1.1.15

 

I disagree with the claim he was trying to be helpful.

 

The time that elapsed since the links were clicked ranged from 2 hours to a few minutes. Considering that I've had larger mods download over longer periods with more waiting time that this is not the case.

If that were all it took it'd be impossible to queue 2 mods if one of them was large enough.

 

I was told this isn't an issue with mod organizer when I asked on the nexus subreddit if this were an actual bug or not, which would also suggest this isn't an issue on the website's end or else all mod managers would have the same problem.

what happens if you take a subset of your 80 queued mods - let's say 5 - and allow them to download. do you see the same issues?

To properly recreate that i'd have to simulate my internet failing.

 

I may have not recreated it perfectly but I chose 5 random mods and queued them. I then turned off wifi on my computer and waited a few seconds. In about 30 seconds all the downloads had the same download failed error message except one that finished downloading before I turned off the internet. All of them were deleted from the mod queue.

 

It's not about numbers.

This also suggests that it has nothing to do with the amount of time that elapsed for the links to expire. The failures happened with mods I selected to download very recently before turning off the internet.
