[LE] Master files and when to place them

Recommended Posts

I'm aware of how to set files as masters when using the creation kit, but I'm unsure of when to do it. When I load the files I'm trying to mod as esms Creation Kit throws around 1400 errors but only throws 500 when I load them as esps. My question is should I first edit the patch I am making with the desired mods set as esps, then set them as esms to add them as masters or should I work through my whole process with the mods I am patching set as esms the whole time?

Original Skyrim: All parent master plugins if not already an ESM file need to be 'false flagged' ESP files. In other words, the internal bit on the plugin's header needs to indicate that it is an ESM. Failure to do it this way will cause any changes made to be lost or possibly create duplicate records when the active plugin is saved.

Skyrim Special Edition: By default it is the same as original Skyrim. But there is a "mod" called Creation Kit Fixes which "fixes" this situation. It basically allows the CK to use any plugin type as a parent master.

When you set the mod you want to work with a double right click over the name it will set that mod to Active. It also should automatically select the plugins used to create it.

As far as seeing all the errors. Most of them are errors but actually kind of warning/errors. What you're working with may or may not be effected ... Unless actually having problems loading the masters.

There is a way to hide that if they are just warning/errors on load up if interested ... bBlockMessageBoxes=1 ... Under [Messages] in SkyrimEdiitor.ini

Unless I'm misunderstanding the question.
