Vortex used to run perfectly for me up until now, but today I was adjusting settings and must've changed something I wasn't supposed to. Now when I start it, I get the splash image followed by a window that says "Vortex seems to be running already. If you can't see it, please check the task manager." When this happens, the task manager shows me that Vortex creates two or three identical instances, and when I end one of them, all of the close. This repeats every time I try to start Vortex, so I can't get into the program to change the settings back. There are no Vortex-related processes that are already open before I attempt to launch it that I can see in Task Manager. What can I do to try to fix this? I use Windows 10. Log file is below: What I did specifically: I have Blade & Sorcery on my Windows 10 and I've modded it, and I'm the administrator of my computer. My roommate, whom uses his own profile on my computer, tried to run it on his profile and hit some sort of error trying to get it to start. The error seemed to have something to do with a mod I've installed on my profile, so I got on the computer to try to resolve it. I opened Vortex on his profile, and got the pop up recommending I purge the mods that were enabled on the seperate instance of Vortex. I dismissed it and set his Vortex to manage Blade & Sorcery. I had misunderstood some advice I got on Google earlier and wondered if activating Shared mode might solve the issue. So I toggled Shared mode on. Vortex closed and opened, and I logged him back on. It still said I need to purge all the mods. I didn't want to log out of his account and onto mine (since I would have to track him down to put his password back in), I decided to take a risk and purged it from his profile. It then started asking me to give permission for Vortex to access certain files. Since the files were files in the mods that were being purged, I thought nothing of it and gave permission (which, in hindsight, might've what caused the problem). It then asked me again for another file. And again, and again, and again. After doing this a couple dozen times, I realized that this isn't going to work, so I closed Vortex (I had to close it with Task Manager, since the pop ups weren't letting me close it the normal way.) I logged onto my account and opened up Vortex. Before I tried to purge anything, I got curious and checked the settings, and it told me that it wasn't toggled for Shared mode. So I toggled Shared mode back on. Big mistake. Vortex closed, and when it tried to reopen, I got the error message from the start of this post. It's persisted since then and happens on both my account and my roommate's. I tried to search for a solution to the problem before making this topic, but couldn't find solutions that I could understand. But some of what I read makes me wonder if I had messed Vortex up when I kept giving permission to allow Vortex to access certain files. I hope I can fix this, I always liked Vortex more than other mod managers I've used in the past.

Vortex appears to be fixed, for now. Granting permission to that file (through right-clicking and using the security tab) got me into Vortex, although with all my mods gone and a flood of error messages. But when I went into settings and changed it from Shared mode to Per User mode seemed to restore everything back to normal. I haven't tested it extensively, but here's hoping the problem is solved. Moral of the story: don't mess with Shared mode unless you know what you're doing. :P
