How To Add Glow Maps

Hey,

this seems like a good tutorial, though I had to look up a lot of extra info in other guides. But even then, when I follow your maps and I check the result, my weapon is all white... Any idea what I could have done wrong? I'm pretty sure it's some setting in NifSkope, but I can't find it ><

Thanks for any help that I might get!

I have an idea but without an actual file, it is only speculation.

* Something is wrong with your texture

or

* The path to the DDS texture in the NIF file is wrong

or

* Your texture is white.

Regardless, it is a NIF/Texture issue...not really a glowmap issue.

You should only be trying to add glowmaps once you have a functional model and texture that works in-game. This should not be the 1st tutorial you go through when starting to learn how to texture. This is more of a refinement tutorial for those that already have and know how to texture.

EDIT:

Nevermind! Seems the glow maps simply aren't rendered in the G.E.C.K. but work fine in-game. Thanks for this tutorial, you've helped me out here. =)

Original message kept for reference:

"I've followed this tutorial step-by-step, to the letter, and so far, it hasn't broken the .nif or anything. However, when I put the model in-game (in the G.E.C.K.) the entire thing glows brightly, rather than using the glow map I created.

The Texture set for the item has the Glow Map set as the Glow/Skin/Hair map. As far as I know from my limited experience with glow maps, this should make it only glow where the glow map is not black.

This is not the case, however. Any ideas?

The regular Diffuse texture works fine. The model isn't turning white. It's the whole thing is glowing instead of just the glow-map areas."

Totally lost, should be using blender right?

Apparently a "nif" is not an accepted file type.

no, blender is used to create a mesh from scratch or alter it's shape.

to assign textures to meshes, you'll need nifscope.

blender will read .nif files, but you have to import them instead of opening them per say.

It works, but you forgot a very important detail:

You need to adjust the "emitmulti" value. In the nifs i was working with, they were defaulted to 0.0000, thus didn't light up.

Just change the value to something >0, to whatever suits your model.

Anyway, Thanks a bunch! My armour looks awesome now.

Where is that property located? I cant find it anywhere.
