What a POS

Recommended Posts

I seriously believe Bethesda purposely made this version of the CK the piece of s*** that it is on purpose so that we'd have to use Creation Club. I've used a variety of IDE's in the last 20 years and this - unless it's a beta version - has to be the worst software, no contest. I've played for about a month and unless you are doing relatively simple tasks it will easily break. So you backup a copy every day and restart it 2-3 times a session to get rid of the flakiness or - how dare I - delete / rename anything. I doubt this is what the Fallout developers use. If it is I either have to admire their persistence and patience or believe they are sick bastards who enjoy getting it shoved up their asses by this frustrating piece of junk called a developer's tool.

I think what I'm trying to say is I was kinda sorta not very happy using this tool. Ya might have to read between the lines.

Using the CK is pure self-flagellation. I already lost like 2 hour of work just today and I don't want to know how much time I lost during the last few month. It's just all super clunky, fiddly and slow and prone to crash or cause errors in your esp. I'm also pretty suspicious when Bethesda claimed that "this" is the tool they're working with. Not to mention that the CK lacks a lot of funcionality which makes creating mods 5 times slower than it should take.

But (as far as I know) there is not really any other way to create mods ...

(Yes, I know about FO4Edit, but that is not really able to do "worldspace" editing, because there is not really a "render window" / "preview window").

I (personally) don't understand why everybody is so upset with the CK ...

I personally think that having at least "some" tool to create mods is better than nothing.

There are lots of great games out there, for which the developers have not released anything like this!#

So I happily accept all of the crashing, it is better to have a crashing mess then nothing at all!

Yes, I know it is easy to complain and say what could be made better, but I personally don't believe in complaining about stuff that can't be changed. That is just wasted "energy".

(Like I said, just my opinion ...)

*Sigh* I know ... it's the only real game in town ... and it's free. I guess every time I lose days of work or stuff just stops working for no reason ... I'll just bend over and ask can I have another sir ...

I never really had major crash issues with the CK, unless I imported a bad .nif

On the contrary the famous Photoshop is giving me more issues.

With some decent RAM it should work. It wasn't designed for home-pcs or laptops but workstations so it isn't optimized for at-home usage.

(Like some logistic-programs for instance need huge amounts of RAM, that's why they need to run on 32 or even 64 gig systems)

Maybe that's also why I didn't have much issues myself ...

The only serious "consistent" crashes I ever had were when I tried to generate PreVis or LOD for a large worldspace.

(Maybe it crashed because I had a few instances of 3DSMAX open in the background, so there was almost no RAM left ...)

But yes, back when I was working on Skyrim stuff and only had a crappy laptop, the CK crashed almost every half hour or so ...

the CK for skyrim se is more unstable as for f04, yes i have some crashes from time to time, but it mostly happens after editing xx npc's, seems ck can't handle that to well

for cleaning/(re)building stuff it never crash

and i have only a medium syst, with 16 g ram

16 Gig ain't that bad. When I started I used 8 gig of ram and it worked pretty well, albeit slow. Generating pre-vis and LOD never crashed it, it just hangs up rarily.
