Who do I contact on Nexus about the mod upload process?

Me again.

I posted about wanting to give up modding earlier. I wanted to give up because of the upload process to the Nexus... I just couldn't work it out.

Thanks to some kind people here, I was convinced to carry on. I'm still verging on giving up.

I've tried again but I still find the Nexus upload forms incomprehensible. Not only that, I'd like to be able to test that my mod downloads properly for players before I release the mod, To me that's essential, but I can't find any way of doing it.

How do I address the team that handles uploads?

I need to talk to them.

Thanks for the reply.

i'll get in touch with one of those two people.

I've had a bit of trouble with a number of parts of the form, because I've never had to do this before. I found the main image a bit of a problem matching the requirements for dimensions and file size. In general I didn't quite understand what was meant by the instructions for several of the fields, or if I got the idea I still wasn't sure what to enter. I resorted to looking for internet tutorials and looking at existing mods on Nexus.

My biggest problem has been with the uploading of the esp and BSA files. Previewing files on the download page of other mods didn't help. Some only contain the esp and any BSA files, some have a folder called Data containing these files. Yet others had a folder with a name similar to the mod containing these files. I didn't know which was right or if they all worked. There was no guidance as to the correct format on the upload page.

That's why I didn't want to go ahead and publish... in case I'd made a mistake and people couldn't download it because of my error!

Hi cumbrianlad,

Sorry to hear you're having problems with the upload form. We're actually working on the early designs of a streamlined version of this process at the moment.

I looked at the mod page you created and it appeared you did everything correctly before you deleted it (I can restore that page if you want, so you don't need to start over).

In terms of tutorials Kinggath has created the following video which is pretty good at talking through the current process:

In terms of packing your mod, for Bethesda titles either of the two methods you mentioned are fine. I recommend doing it without including the "data" level as users will be able to directly extract your mod into the data folder (or use a mod manager).

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the reply, pickysaurus. Thinking about how the game reads loose files I thought that a folder called 'Data' holding esp and BSA files didn't look right, but I couldn't be certain, especially since I saw so many in that format.

If I can start afresh using the same mod title, I'll do that. I haven't deleted any of my personal files and I also copied and pasted all the text sections into a word document for ease of re-use.

After reading Reneer's post, I thought it would be a good idea for me to work back through the upload forms and take notes of areas that I felt were unclear to me or could be confusing for others, along with any hints or tips that could make the process easier (for me). I was then going to send that to your good self, or BigBizkit. My thoughts on this were that it would be better feedback... rather than me just moaning about a number of things.

As an engineer, I worked on designing process engineering plant from design, through manufacture and procurement up to commissioning and handover. Almost the worst person to produce the operating and maintenance manual would be me! It was always done by somebody else who liaised with me. The reason for this was that I knew every nut bolt, washer, conbtroller and valve and how they were all used. As such, it was all too easy for me to omit the 'obvious', which was not at all obvious to someone who'd never seen the thing before.

If I do this, I could give you a 'novice-eye' view of the process.

Sure, feel free to send over your comments and I can pass them directly to our designer :)
