Must-Have mods for Morrowind

I finally decided to get Morrowind and I never really check the Morrowind Nexus and don't know the best mods and I hate getting them after I start the game as I'll have to start another new character but I want my first Morrowind experience to be a great one in terms of Graphics. I was hoping that most experienced Morrowind modders could help me out by telling me the best mods to improve graphics and Gameplay, I have an ATI Readeon HD 5450 and 4GB RAM. I'm not a genius with computers but not an idiot either.

I am in much the same boat. I've found that Tamriel Rebuilt seems to be a popular mod, but I've yet to locate the general graphics update I am looking for. Any assistance would be appreciated.

I'd suggest at least 2. Both are changing graphical appearances.

To me personally, I'd rather not change the looks of all in Morrowind. I like this game authentic, as I grew up with it as of such. It's got a certain charm.

The 2 mods I advice would be:

Better bodies, as found here: http://morrowind.nexusmods.com/mods/3880/

Better clothes, as found here: http://morrowind.nexusmods.com/mods/42204

Both of these used to be of Psychodog studios, which has since then vanished, sadly.

They're both installs, which need to be pointed to your the datafiles file in your morrowind directory.

I've both installed them just now to validate that they work. To activate these you must activate them in the data files tab on the menu screen. (Just in case you don't already know)

There's also a better heads mod, if you want. But do keep in mind that I know of a mission where the head of a character is actually described.

I personally keep to the vanilla heads, but if you want it: http://morrowind.nexusmods.com/mods/42226#content

Not validated

There's also another mod which makes Balmora more entertaining to be in.

It doesn't quite follow the lore but I find it entertaining all the same.

This mod is found here: http://www.gamefront.com/files/files/4483708/balmora_expansion.ace

Hope this'll have helped you out a bit. Enjoy Morrowind, it's a game worth enjoyment for many years.

If you want better graphics and atmosphere look no further than the MGSO 3.0, conveniently available on the nexus here! I currently have Morrowind cranked to look better than Skyrim on Ultra which is why I haven't touched Skyrim in weeks.

Beyond that here are my absolute must haves:

Horatio Spellcasting

Illuminated Order

Lichcraft2

Galsiah's Character Development

Vvardenfell DruglordRise of House Telvanni

Uvirith's Legacy

I also highly recommend a better magicka regeneration mod or some serious tweaking of GCD so that mages are playable but that's kind of personal preference. I really enjoy the Tamriel Rebuilt project, just make sure you register the BSA's in your .ini folder or you'll be staring at yellow diamonds all day. Balmora Expansion is also good, maybe a little excessive for the city but still adds some interest to Balmora.

If you need any other ideas I'd recommend checking out Morrowind Mythic Mods if any of the links are broken (many are) try Morrowind Mod History.

The only thing I want to tweak, besides graphics, is the combat system - does somebody know some good melee/archery combat mods that are well thought out? With 'well thought' out I mean not simply removing the miss chance for instance... this would make agility useless and would break the games balance imho.

edit: also a nice needs mod like 'realistic needs and diseases' for skyrim would be really nice to have.

I am also looking to replay Morrowind as I haven't touched it since Oblivion was released and am now feeling Deja Vu with the Dragonborn expansion for Skyrim out...

@Zephyr Kronos That MGSO mod looks really nice, definitely one I'll have to try out. That's really the only thing that I'm interested in modding for any TES game: Graphics, Lighting and Textures. Otherwise I don't like to mess with the original feel of the game.

If there's some sort of mod out there that gives Morrowind a more realistic physics system so you don't have arrows shooting out forever that would also be cool, I haven't seen anything like that yet though.

I like MGSO for graphics but for replayability you need less generic npcs which gives you both new quests and unique dialogue for the people of Vvardenfell making talking to the towns folk feel more interesting and fresh, and Morrowind comes Alive which adds randomly generated npcs to both the wilderness towns and dungeons, both hostile and friendly to make every encounter new. You'll see travelling traders with interesting special merchandise, there will be companions that will aid you in your fight and now when you re-enter a familair bandits cave, you will have no idea how many new and interesting friends the bandits have for you to kill.
