Hello everyone,

I need help. In my game there is a huge bug that I don't know the cause of nor where to look to find it. To clarify, once I kill an enemy or enemies slay other people, something strange happens within their inventory. There are people/enemies as objects there that I can grab and drop and they spawn as if consoled in or I either CTD as soon as I pick it up. Like for instance, say a Falkreath guard gets killed by vampires. Okay, so I go to loot him and a character enemy/ally/neutral (i.e. Dwarven Metal Spider, or Stormcloak Soldier) will appear in his inventory. Now I have been playing Skyrim since it came out and I know this should not be happening. It has no image. I do not know the mod responsible. I played vanilla for a while (no mods, no extras) and everything was fine. Download and install some mods (about 235) and the problem shows up. I don't know where to look in my Data folder and I'm not familiar at all with the CK. I just got into playing modded SE around 6 months ago, so I'm pretty new at this. I never had this problem before. Of course I had other mods and then deleted them. I uninstalled SE and reinstalled it Tuesday of this week. I deleted all mod cache files, Hell I deleted NMM and reinstalled it too. I really don't know what to do.

I'm sorry for the longwinded post, but I really could use your guy's help on this! I apologize if this in the wrong section, but I didn't know where else to ask. If anyone has any ideas on how to help, please share.

Thank You,

Nocturniquette

Theres 2 ways to find out.. 1. the old fashion way. You have to do the trouble shoot process, First deactivate all your mods, For prosperety at the main menu ~ coc riverwood..

Quit game.. then use common sense group your mods into groups of 5 to 10 mods & try to replicate the problem by ~coc riverwood.

Now if you find the mod it could of ruined your save so be prepared..

Option 2. Xedit - Use common sense, think about the problems of what are happening.. click all your modds then when they load up search through the changes that are made to the inventory or LVL lists..

I will give you an example of my expereience with Xedit, I had a problem where all the pots did cook anything anymore.. they would't do anything.. So I went into xedit I filtered the cooking pot & it showed me what mod changed the cooking pot, it turned out to be the gain expereince when cooking.. so common sense & learn xedit will save you time & heart Ache byt the way the to me 5 mins to do it too longer for to load then to track down the problem..

I hope this helps...

It was NOT a mod conflict or a script conflict. I accidentally cleaned Skyrim.esm with SSEdit and it screwed up my Steam cache files. So I deleted those and then verified the cache again. Had to download 9 files... I created a new game and I cannot replicate the problem! HALLELUJAH. 2 weeks of searching for an answer and it pops up in some obscure post. Oh Thank God I can play my game again!

Leaving this here in case something like this happens to someone else. Whatever you do boys and girls, DO NOT CLEAN SKYRIM.ESM WITH SSEDIT.

And thank you ccoo84 for the tips and suggestions. I did try them, of course, but being as it wasn't a mod conflict or even a script issue, it didn't help. Though I will keep your advice for the future.

***EDIT*** The same problem occurred AGAIN!! This time in my character's inventory! Instant CTD when I see Dwarven Metal Spider in my inventory. Still can't figure it out. Just uninstalled and deleted everything. AGAIN. At this point, playing vanilla sounds better and better than dealing with this bullshit.

If ANYONE has ANY solutions, PLEASE HELP. I'm going nuts here!

  • 1 month later...

**********EDIT********** I found the issue! Please pay attention to your Data folder people when you reinstall Skyrim!!! I know what the problem was. For some reason when I reinstalled Skyrim, I had a Skyrim.esm and a Skyrim.esp. The esp was overwriting the esm and causing massive ctd issues. It was not a mod.
