[LE] LOD Generation big problems

Recommended Posts

Again 24 hours lost due to my limited understanding of lod generation.

I have a custom worldspace with custom textures and custom trees I want to be visible in the distance. My worldspace is sized maybe a third of Skyrim. For the trees, the process is pretty good explained, but it's pain to do that. I already created the billboard images, but to create the textfiles is horrible. Is there an easier way to get matching textfiles but to look for the height values in nifskope and write that all down manually? I understand that these files must have their ID in the name...

I created the lod with ck - terrain lods works, but no mountain peaks or ridges show up in the distance, and also no objects.

I deleted everything and tried Oscape. My worldspace has unique size and water- and landheights. I didn't care for a square size because I had no idea that it is important. And I'm not good with math... In Oscape I only changed the water and landlevel to the values I use in ck. I followed the guide of Maegfaer and also the video of Alexander Velicky. I had a lot of mesh errors, but no explanation what these means. Oscape processed well until it was finished. All meshes and textures were installed in the terrain folder, but completely invisible ingame. I esmyfied my esp and tried again. Changed back to esp, no lod showed up.

I tried that some days before with other values, but that messed the landscape up and showed peaks and edges where nothing was built, with grey stretched textures - not usable.

I deleted everything and used xLODGen. Terrain creation is fine, but no mountainpeaks and -ridges are visible. And no houses and rocks.

And most weird is, that the worldmap shows my terrain, but the size of Skyrim's worldmap with the peak of High Hrothgar??? My worldspace has no parent.

After reading through every tutorial and forum I could find I'm completely lost.

I also don't know how to create lod for unique objects. All programs use the vanilla flat meshes and lod textures for creating lod, but results are always vanilla lod and not custom. As far as I know. But in fact I understand little about that all.

If someone is able to help me out, it would be very much appreciated.

Update: agerweb is helping me, thanks muchly!

I didn't understand that object lod must be attached to the main nif file in ck. So I duplicated every vanilla lodmesh for the landscape peaks and ridges and all glaciers and some more and renamed them accordingly to my created ones with the end lod.nif. I used for each nif three levels, means for each original nif three extra nifs in lowpoly. Now I got the mountains and rocks lod working ingame, but with vanilla textures.

I resized my unique landscape textures necessary for the lod to 512 kb and renamed them with ending lod.dds and lod_n.dds

Run XLODGen for objects only with the settings 512 for diffuse and normals and DXT1 for diffuse, DXT5 for normals.

Now only the mountainridges and peaks with the rock texture show up ingame, not those with sandstone or ice - weird. But it's late. Maybe I overlooked something. I have no idea if the values I use are alright. Trial and error I guess - as always.
