Can somebody help me out?

Hey guys, apologies ahead of time as im sure this has probably been asked a ton of times but im hoping that someone can help me get a basic modded skyrim that doesn't cause lots of bugs and crashes.

I put in a good 12 hours of downloading/redownloading skyrim, trying different mod launchers/managers, testing as i went untill i had around 20 mods that finally got through the first couple hours of gameplay with minor annoyances that i could deal with. The more i played however the more the game would crash. I found removing OBIS related mods helped with that a bit but i was i bit bummed out because i liked the mod.

Im determined not to play another stealth archer class so i installed better magic and college of winterhold mods as well. I couldnt even get past the first level as the arch mage was outside of winterhold fighting wolves -.-.

I'm pretty dissapointed and put off from clearing everything and starting again just to have it go wrong AGAIN.

I'm Running windows 7 64 bit and i own the original skyrim with all expansions.

I'm Looking for recommendations for

the best mod manager:

A handful of mods from all categories, enough to make a difference but nothing too crazy such as Graphics,NPCS,Better cities, Magic, enchanments, etc that are known to work together + any support mods i may need to install.

Thanks for taking your time to read this.

Getting a stable, modded Skyrim LE running is harder than calibrating a particle accelerator!

I use Mod Organizer 2. You will also need Tes5Edit for cleaning mods, Wrye Bash for the bashed patch, LOOT for load order, SKSE (most mods use this and it just helps in general), and it's handy to have zEdit for the zMerge feature (squish 10 mods into 1 to save load order space). Get the latest ENB and install at least the ENBoost part as this helps for stability.

GamerPoets has some excellent tutorials on YouTube for the above steps.

You have to have USLEEP. If you have the HighResTexturePacks, get rid of them (that was one of the biggest stability boosts for me). Make sure you use LOOT and a bashed patch and complete steps in the right order.

To suggest mods, I need to know more about what exactly "enough to make a difference but nothing too crazy" means. Do you want to alter bodies or not? Do you want additional armours and weapons? Do you NOT want mods that require setup and other mods? For instance, Legacy of the Dragonborn is an incredible mod, but it does require patching and proper base mods to work.

Getting a stable Skyrim isn't easy, but it can be done.
