Hello, I'm currently trying swap the vanilla vampire lord model with a different one I have. It should be mentioned that I have no experience with NifSkope or outfit studio so my first attempt is pretty laughable.

After messing with NifSkope for awhile I gave up on it and moved to outfit studio where I had more luck, however I ran into two problems. The first being that the shader looks extremely dark and the in game lighting does not illuminate the model at all, well it sort of does but only at extremely odd angles. The second problem I'm having is with the weight painting and trying to assign the bones to different parts of the models. After scaling my model as close as I could with the vanilla one I tried my best to copy the weight painting for each bone, but in the game certain parts would stretch to weird places despite looking fine in the program. Now I know ideally I should've lined up the two models more closely, but I really just wanted to test things. The issue I encountered didn't really seem to be due to the differences in the two models default positions, instead it seemed like certain pieces just didn't want to cooperate.

So to get more to the point, should I try to do the weight painting more accurately in Outfit Studio? Or should I give NifSkope another shot? Sorry if this makes little sense I really have no idea what I'm doing.

Here's the current abomination, with it's extremely large neck and mutated limbs . Yes I am aware that it's missing parts that's because it's super late and I was to lazy to weight paint them I also had to brighten the image because of the aforementioned busted shaders.

Any help is greatly appreciated! And if I need to provide any more information or clarify anything please let me know, I'm sure I made no sense at all.

The first question is, what type of file is this 'replacer' model? If it's another Skyrim .nif file you can simply just rename the file to replace the original.

Not exactly sure what it is you're trying to do in NifSkope because you mention a lot of issues with weighting. NifSkope is not a weighting tool. Stick with Outfit Studio. Import the original vamp lord model as a reference and copy the weights from it to your new model. No need to weight each bone manually but you may need to "clean" it up manually. That's trial and error.

As for the shader issues, either you don't have the correct options or the normals of your model are flipped. Impossible to tell without seeing the file.

It would help others to help you if you can provide more detail on what your new model is and/or provide the files for others to look at more closely.

Sorry about that I should have been more specific, it is a .nif file with the same name as the original so everything in that regard works as it should including the new textures showing up in the game.

As for NifSkope I only briefly mentioned it because I tried to use it to put the model I had over the existing one, but I couldn't figure out how to transfer any of the bones and it was just a mess. I did what you said in Outfit Studio and had the vanilla model as a reference, copied the weights, cleaned it up (to the best of my limited knowledge on weight painting) originally but had that problem where parts would be too elongated or strange looking.

I don't think the normals are flipped but I could be wrong I think it's just incorrect options.

The model is a completely different model from the vanilla one so they don't share the same uv maps or anything which is probably why I'm having so much trouble doing this for a first time project.
