deleting select models and textures

Good evening,

This post is relating to Dragon Age: Origins. Apologies for neglecting to put that in the title.

This is not troubleshooting, per se, but I would like help with something. I do not know anything about modding other than how to install them. When it comes to customizing them I am rather bamboozled. What I would like to do is delete some specific custom models and textures from a mod. I have identified the models and textures that I do not like (I think) but deleting them instead of causing the game to revert to the original models and textures instead leads to floating pairs of eyes, swords, and shields with no visible bodies. Is there a file I need to find that is telling the game to look for these models and textures in overrides rather than getting the original textures from the games? If it matters, what I want to do specifically is to not use the DA2 templar models and textures added to the game by Dragon Age Redesigned (I think. I foolishly moved all of the models and textures out of their specific folders so that I wouldn't have redundant models and textures).

Any help is appreciated. Please explain things to me like you would a complete n00b as I barely know anything about which file extensions do what, etc.

Thanks.

Without knowing exactly what mods are being discussed, I can only speculate on a solution... it sounds to me like you have a mod that is (or was) equipping NPCs with the DA templar items. If so, you need to remove the character files added by the mod (the UTC files) in addition to removing the files for the items (the models and textures).

Note that the equipment of NPCs is locked to whatever was in effect when the area was first entered; that information is 'baked' into the game's saves. For example, if you've already entered Ostagar for the prelude section of the story with the DA2 items and UTCs installed, the templars in Ostagar will be stuck with that gear, even if you remove the modded files from your install... they do not revert to the vanilla gear. (And, as you've discovered, because the items are not installed, the NPCs are left with 'floating heads', caused by the missing models.)

To have those NPCs in their unmodded state, you'd have to roll back to save prior to entering the map for the first time.

Areas that have not been entered will use the vanilla equipment.

I wish I could remember which mod it was. If so I would have an easier time identifying exactly which files I need to part with. I do know it is either Dragon Age Redesigned or Improved Atmospheres. I guess it's immaterial so long as the proper files are removed.

Thanks very much. I was unaware that the models and textures were assigned by the utc files. I appreciate the help. I'll delete the utc files as well as the models and textures I discovered and see if Carroll looks how he is supposed to look at the tower I guess. Thanks!

It's not Dragon Age Redesigned. That mod doesn't add or change any NPC equipment, it's just some textures and face morphs.

Improved Atmosphere, on the other hand, does exactly that.
