Leatherman Wave Reviews

Have you been dreaming about owning a multitool since you were a kid? Today, we will be reviewing the Leatherman Wave, one of the most popular multitools of all time. This one has 17 tools, is 4 inches long, and weighs about 8.5 ounces. Without further ado, let’s see what this tool is all about.

Tools on the outside

One thing that makes this tool the best multi tool is because it has tools on the outside. Traditional multitools contain all of their tools inside the handle, but the Leatherman went one step further in equipping tools on the outside. They are quick and easy to access with just a flip of the thumb

Serrated blade

The serrated blade is nice and long-- about 3 inches-- that is right on the outside. Especially in urgent situations where you have to cut rope, simply flip the blade out and it should get the job done in no time.

Wood-cutting saw

The saw is also around 3 inches long, and has nice sharp edges to drive into woods. The saw and the serrated blades, as well as all the tools on the outside, have a liner lock that keeps them in place.

Non-serrated blade

The blade is made from high quality 420HC, stainless steel. It is a clip point and has two bevels. The bevels are meant to balance the blade. The blade is nice and sharp for cutting anything, but you would want to save it for really urgent situations. Use the serrated blade or the scissors instead to preserve the quality of the blade.

File

The last tool on the outside is the file. On one side, it is a standard bastard file which you can use to smoothen rough edges on metal or woods, while the other side is a diamond file, good for smoothening extremely hard materials like hardened steel. At the bottom of the file is another narrow, thin file for doing small tasks.

Tools on the inside

Before diving in the details about the tools, we should mention that everything on the multitool locks, which makes it one of the best multi tools on the market. Although the kinds of locks vary, these locks are in place to make sure the tools don’t flop around while in use.

Pliers

The pliers can be obtained by bending the handle inwards. Within one tool, there are four different types of pliers. At the top is a needle nose plier, which is small and air-tight, allowing you to hold small stuff, such as a small branch of trees, or to pick up hot lids if you are camping outdoors. In the middle is a bigger plier that applies to larger tasks, while at the bottom are a soft and a hard wire cutter.

Bottle/ can opener and wire stripper

These tools are packed within one tool. They are small, yet nice and precise for you to pop open a can and for cutting a wire without having to resort to the blade.

Screw and bit drivers

The multitool comes with a large and a small bit driver, as well as a screwdriver. All of them have a lock system where you can lock and unlock by just pressing the back of the tool.

Scissors

The last feature is scissors, which is tiny and sharp that you can use whenever to limit blunting the non-serrated blade.

To decide what is the best rated multi tool, imagine yourself in a life-and-death situation and see what tool you’d rather have on. For many, the Leatherman Wave is the one. How about you? Let us know your thoughts and thank you!
