It turned out one of the NiNodes on the rig was called "Bip01 L UpperPauldron", and did not actually exist. I renamed it to the shoulder node and did what you said and copied over the NiTriShape and its fixed. Mod back in gear. Thank god for more talented people on these forums to help noobs out!
