Armor Comparison Question

I've been playing Morrowiind since day 1. I have always played as a semi-thief with light armor (usually dark glass). This has worked quite well for me until now. I started playing Whisper of Dreams and the first dungeon is beating the s*** out of me. I am around level 30 and I have a hypothetical question concerning armor. Would a character with 100 percent point in Heavy Armor wearing 200 points of protection be protected the same as a character with 100 percent points in Light Armor with the same 200 points of protection?

I have always worn light armor because of the thief character that I prefer; but like I said I'm getting slaughtered with 135 points in Light Armor with the difficulty setting at ZERO

If the armor rating is the same, then the protection is the same. Light armor is less durable than heavy armor though, so it will get to poor condition more quickly, and the worse condition your armor's in the more damage you'll take.

Do you use any fortify skill spells e.g Heavy Armor, Light Armor or does your PC actually have the Heavy Armor skill or the Light Armor skill at 100 without using a spell(s)?
