Missing Quest

I have been playing modded SSE for a few days and have been trying to do the Companions quests. I did the first quest fine (the one where you spar with Farkas), but once he gave me the second quest (Proving Honor) I started having problems. My issue is that I do not have Proving Honor in my journal as a quest I can select.

 

More information:

-Proving Honor doesn't show up in my journal.

-When I talk to Farkas again and ask him for jobs, he says "I've already given you a job, now get to it". If I ask other companions for jobs, they tell me that Farkas gave me one.

-I do not have any Companions quests active, I've checked several times and I don't have any.

-I attempted to utilize the console to cheat through the quest so I could get to the next one, but what ended up happening was Skjor (the person I need to talk to for the next quest) repeatedly saying "Oh, you're back." It didn't pull up a menu to select things to say to him, either, he just repeatedly said that when I was in the vicinity of him or if I attempted to talk to him. I tried to debug him (console, clicked on him, "resetAI") but he just kept saying it anyway.

-After that didn't work, I reset the Proving Honor quest back to the beginning, but it's still not in my journal and not on my map.

-I tried to debug Farkas, but he just does the same thing anyway.

-I ran vanilla Skyrim through steam once with my save to see if it would show up there, but it was missing there as well.

 

I have no idea if this is a mod problem or a Skyrim problem, but as I've spent a few hours googling and trying to find folks with the same problem to no avail, I'm gonna operate under the assumption that it's a mod thing, for the time being.

I'm not sure how to share my LOOT information, other than posting screenshots. I'll post one of the top of it, and if you need more information I can add more.

 

I'm very new to modding, but so far have been able to figure most stuff out on my own. But as far as this glitch/issue/error I don't know how to tell if it's a mod thing or not, and how to fix it either way. I don't really care that much about being a companion, I just really want Aela to be my follower so I'm trying to do this stuff so I can get her.

 

Let me know if there's any more information that I can provide, or if there's anything to even be done about it. Thanks in advance if you're able to offer any insight! :-)

You do not spar with Farkas, you spar with Vilkas. Proving Honor is the second quest you get. I do not think sparing with Vilkas is considered a quest.

 

After you follow Farkas to your quarters you must wait after he says the other Companions are eager to meet you and and come to Aela or him for jobs and he will give you a quest. you must complete this quest and then Proving Honor will start. If you left Farkas before hearing what quest he gave you he will still think that he gave you a quest. It is this quest he is talking about when you try to converse with him.

 

I would go to a save before you start the Companion quest line as you are very early in and remember to wait when Farkas shows you to your quarters until he gives you his quest.

Ah yeah, sorry, I meant Vilkas - their names are really similar to me lmao. I don't make separate saves so I don't have a save to go back to, and I'm far enough into the rest of the game that I don't want to start over. Is there any way to get the quest, or am I just screwed now?

You might try googling "Proving Honor UESP" and going to the bugs section of that page. Whether there is a console command to advance the quest I do not know. but you will probably find out by reading the UESP page.

 

You would be well advised to make regular hard saves, they are very handy for situations like this. I make four or five hard saves an hour, sometimes more depending on the situation although I only keep the last ten or so and delete the rest after exiting from the game. Some people keep all their saves, ending up with hundreds of them although I have never seen the point of that.

 

Speaking of console commands I would not use any that were not suggested by a wiki or UESP Elder Scrolls site. There are many console commands floating around that may be suggested to you but if they are not suggested by one of the aforementioned sites they have a real possibility of completely breaking your game.

 

If you cannot find a solution on one of the official Elder Scrolls sites I would say you are pretty much SOL. Remember to keep regular saves as what happened to you is a pretty common occurrence and many times going back to a save before the situation occurs is the only way to correct it.
