Whiterun Guards become hostile after walking past a certain point approaching mixwater mill.

I discovered this as I was traveling with Delphine for her quest. As the title says, Whiterun guards will all become permanently hostile when I reach a certain point along the road towards Mixwater mill. Other cities are not effected, but a well timed patrol taught me that Stormcloack soldiers also become agro'd. When I say approach, I don't mean discover. It happens a small ways back along the road (see screenshots). I don't know how far it extends, but I don't think it's forever.

UPDATE: After some experimenting, I have found that it extends rightwards forever, or at least the map ends before it does, but leftwards it actually ends quite quickly. I couldn't find any upwards or downwards limit. it seems to extend forever vertically.

Third, Are you using Wrye Bash and if you are then where is the bashed patch?

As in they actually attack you, or do they simply threaten you?

 

I've found If you're get too close to a group of the roaming troops, especially if they've just been in a fight with the thalmor or imperials or whatever, they get aggressive, "you don't belong here, move along, blah blah blah) while unsheathing their weapons and acting like they're about to attack, although I have yet to actually be attacked (unless one of my more aggressive followers gets it into their head to attack them first, at which point, I reload while muttering obscenities and swearing to boot the offending follower...which I never really do... or I decide to take out a patrol of thalmor, which I do do sometimes just out of a personal animus towards them)

I suggest that you remove that mod, just to see if it helps.

 

 

Third, Are you using Wrye Bash and if you are then where is the bashed patch?

 

First, yeah, my bad, I've edited the post.

 

Second, I don't recall exactly why I installed that mod, as it was one of the earlier ones I got, but probably it was a dependency for a mod I no longer use. Either way though, disabling it didn't change anything.

 

Third, I am not using Wyre Bash.

As in they actually attack you, or do they simply threaten you?

 

I've found If you're get too close to a group of the roaming troops, especially if they've just been in a fight with the thalmor or imperials or whatever, they get aggressive, "you don't belong here, move along, blah blah blah) while unsheathing their weapons and acting like they're about to attack, although I have yet to actually be attacked (unless one of my more aggressive followers gets it into their head to attack them first, at which point, I reload while muttering obscenities and swearing to boot the offending follower...which I never really do... or I decide to take out a patrol of thalmor, which I do do sometimes just out of a personal animus towards them)

They are actually attacking. No build up or anything. Plus, it happens when I cross that spot, even if I need to walk away from them to do so. Also, remember, this effects Whiterun guards too. And, it isn't the same as if I've committed a crime. My bounty doesn't go up from 0, they don't try to arrest me, and sheathing my sword does nothing. Plus, this is 100% permanent. The only way to remove it I've found is to load an earlier save.

 

I tried just fast traveling and finishing Delphinus quest, and while that didn't agro the guards, they still became hostile the moment I crossed that line like before.

Hmm... I had that (Or similar. a town once attacked me for no reason...riverwood and the miners near near markarth) happen a couple times along the way and also solved it by loading an earlier save made before I committed whatever unknown cardinal sin resulted in the world seeing me as supervillian. I just played from that point, (ie after reloading) like I would do if I accidentally attacked a guard or accidentally stole something while trying to talk to an NPC or whatever. I don't have time to fuss with the BS "gotchas". I'd rather lose a bit of loot or progress than to get mired in some dramqueen subplot of getting myself out of trouble I never intended to cause.

 

- I'm the dragon born godchild after all. And unlike all those "peasant" NPCs, I *do* get do-overs :wink:

 

I don't know how to check, off-hand, but obviously your relationship with "the world" (or at least guards/soldiers) has been set to "sour" (mortal enemy) << not official terms of course.

 

Maybe something glitched while fighting a beast/dragon and you got tagged with an undesirable relationship setting like Draughur eyes or Astronach fire-tail sometimes gets stuck to the player, so it might just be one of those situations where wiping an effect (some sort of spell as I recall) via console is possible. Hopefully one of the more savvy folk who sometimes answer sees light in the tunnel and will answer. (Draughur eyes and Astronach tails can be solved with console commands)
