Edit CM Partner NPC Face W/O Crashing?

Hi folks. Sorry if this isn't the right place to put this. I'm pretty new to doing any kinds of mods, and in fact made Vortex handle all the hard work when I installed CM Partners and OBSE recently. Anyway, I wanted to edit one of the partners' faces, since it bugged me a little, and a friend directed me to the Construction Set, warned me that it ended to crash if you didn't let it "rest" between actions, etc.

So I open the CS, set the CM Partners More NPCs esp as the active file (this also x's the Oblivion and CM Partners esm's under Data, so I figured it was OK). I find the NPC I want, I double-tap his name to edit, let it sit for a minute or so, go to Face Advanced, do the tweaks I want, go to Face, hit Save, hit OK to exit the editor, then save through File up top, and exit the CS. I figure something about my save method must be the issue, because all I'm doing is editing one NPC's facial proportions. I haven't touched anything else. Yet, when I open Oblivion and say Yes to continuing from the last save file, Oblivion closes itself out as soon as it tries to load my save. I'm sure it's a simple dumb mistake, but I've never done mods or anything before, so I'm pretty lost.

Any help would be appreciated. Thank you!

Try putting a tick mark in Preview (just to the right of the Eyes dropdown box) before you click on any other Face related tabs.

- Edit - The other thing is I suggest you sort your load order again after editing any ESP ... your edit to an ESP will put it at the bottom of your load order rather than where it was before your edit.

Hi, thanks for the tips! Tried marking Preview, no dice. I do see where load order stuff is at in Vortex, but I never did keep track of what the order was before editing, so I can't say for sure if it changed, or what I should change it back to. I can say the CM Partner esp's are not last in the list (a different custom khajiit follower mod that a friend made is, and that one's been running for a while fine with no issues, and I didn't touch it in the CS at all, so it should be good).

One thing I forgot to mention in the OP is that when I set the active file, it will load a bunch of stuff and then give an error "Warning, Cannot find referenced object [somethingorother] on Script [somethingorother]". It happens 10 times, all different objects on various scripts. It lets me continue anyways, and stuff seems to open fine, but that could be significant?

Errors are a "feature" of the Construction Set. Some/most can be ignored but I'm not the expert in that area.

My limited understanding of Vortex is that it incorporates LOOT for load order stuff. Can't say whether or not it has a way to start a load order sort outside of it's other things I've heard about (Deploy being the one that comes to mind right now).

Oblivion load orders are determined by the file date and timestamp, with the newest dated stuff loading at the bottom of the load order, so in Oblivion all any load order manager does is change file dates/timestamps when it sorts your load order. When you edit an ESP in the CS and save the file date and timestamp will be the current system time on your machine at that instant. That's why you will need to resort your load order before starting the game.

If you can't figure out how to get Vortex to resort your load order after editing the ESP I'd suggest posting a question in the Vortex Support forum. If you describe what you are doing and ask about getting Vortex to resort your load order there I'm certain you'll get your answer to that question.
