Random purple texture and unaccesible Main Menu

WorldWarTheThird

Recommended Posts

Basically it's impossible for me to even start new game since the menu do not appear and if does it's all messed up and with purple texture.

I thought it was a mod conflict and started disabling one by one every single mod to see if it would fix, it didn't.

There is not a single mod causing this mess, sometimes it happens even without changing anyhing in the plugin list.

I uninstall one mod, the problem is solved i re-install another mod(even if different and not a conlficting one) and it came back.

It's random.

I don't even have to count, you have too many and the game cannot handle the all.

Was not the limit 255?

By the way, i'm not exceeding the limit, it crashes also when I unassign half of them.

No, the limit is not 255. That is a theoretical limit. The actual limit is in the 125-130 range, depending on you equipment and any other mod files that do not have an .ems/.esp.

Our current understanding is that if you have a plugin (active or not) installed in the "Data" folder, the game engine loads it up into memory when it starts. The game is "hard code" limited to 512 "file handles" and uses 3 "handles" for EVERY file it accesses without releasing them until the game is closed normally. (It then assumes Windows will deal with them. This also explains why people have had such widely ranging "cap numbers".) You have a limited amount (4GB when patched; 2GB by default) of memory available to the game and every plugin of any nature consumes some of that memory (along with the file handles). Add to this that the game can be shown to have "memory leaks" which eventually cause it to CTD.

The mod FNV Mod Limit Fix (just released 20 Apr 2020) fixes the smaller "plugin cap" problem by increasing (4x) the maximum number of file handles to the common "2048" normally used by Windows to enable the full 255 plugin limit of 32-bit games. This appears to have the side benefit of smoother (possibly a few FPS faster) play and reduced or eliminated audio stutter reported by some users.

Any time you remove a plugin from your current play-through "load order" you risk corrupting your save game files. This is because plugins typically store information there as to the state of their variables and quests. If you picked up a unique (non-vanilla) item added by a mod, that item (like any item you pick up) is stored in the save game, but also requires the plugin it came from to be available as that item's "source records". In the case of "body replacement" mods, especially if they use a "custom race", it is highly likely you will have to start over if you can't switch back to a vanilla race first. Hence the general advice to never remove a plugin from your current game.

In the meantime, please see the 'Common Game Problems' section of the wiki "FNV General Mod Use Advice" article.

If the problem persists, then work through either the 'Solutions to Starting the game problems' or the 'Solutions to "Crash To Desktop" (CTD) problems' sections in the wiki "Fallout NV Mod Conflict Troubleshooting" guide.

I recommend anyone read the entire "FNV General Mod Use Advice" article to understand the differences between this game and others you may have experience with; especially if this is your first attempt to play a modded FNV or it's been more than a year since you last did so. It is designed for someone who has never played a modded PC game before, so it tries to avoid making any assumptions, is kept "up-to-date", and covers years of "lessons learned". It is NOT a list of various mods to install that happen to work on the author's machine. It addresses fundamentals underlying how to get the basic game and mods to work together.
