Different "currency" system possible?

Recommended Posts

Good evening everybody!

I know that there is a mod somewhere that "swaps" the "pre-war money" and "caps", so that the "pre-war-money" is used to pay for things and caps can be sold as a MISC item.

I know how something like that could be done. (just swap the meshes, change the names of the objects, done)

What I want to do is this:

Have the currency in the "normal" Fallout4 worldspaces be caps, but in one of my custom worldspaces, use a different "currency", for example the pre-war money.

I know i could make a script that "removes" the pre-war money from the players inventory and adds the object that the player wants to buy.

Something like that would be fine for a vending machine, but not for acutally "buying/selling from/to an NPC".

I want to use the "vanilla" trade menu for that if possible.

Would something like this be possible?

I know, it is probably one of those ideas that will not really be possible because I am trying to mess around with the "base game mechanics" and that is just like trying to dig through stone with just your hands.

Somehow possible, but very very difficult.

The reason I want to do this:

I am currently working on a small "custom worldspace" (basically a small island about as small as the "Commonwealth" worldspace).

And it wouldn't really make sense that they would use "bottlecaps" as a currency there ...

But I don't want to change it for the entire game, just for that one worldspace.
