Please help me solve my own mess

Hello all,

 

I've tried installing mods and it's all gone wrong. My apologies, I'm sure this is asked all the time.

Whenever I try to start a new game the error message "Expression Error Unable to find global variable "ab01boNoLight2" in script ab01bogBoatScript" comes up and everything goes CTD.

I've tried running MLOX and updating the load order (with the 2019 mlox_base) and ran TES3cmd through Wrye Bash, neither of which have obviously helped. I've run the distant lands setup as well in case that fixed it but it didn't. I assume I've somehow managed to delete something or installing one of the mods did?

Hello Greyxael :)

When you get that error, there's a problem with a global variable in a script, probably in one of the mods, because I don't recognize it as a vanilla game global variable. Since you don't usually change scripts when installing, I doubt that you did anything, there's probably just a bad script in a mod, but which one? Error mentions "BoatScript", so which mods have to do with boats? I'd turn all of those mods off, and of course any mods that are dependent on them, and try launching the game again.

Hello all,

 

Thank you for the replies, I solved the problem by installing some additional mods that altered boat travel and this appears to have 'fixed' things.

For people having similar issues:

If some mod is a different version/patch for another mod, there are essentially 2 possibilities:

1. the mod is a patch (it usually needs to be loaded after the original mod)

or

2. the mod is a replacer (it needs to be loaded instead of the original mod)

 

if you fail to find the information about this in the mod documentation, a simple rule to establish if mod is a patch or a replacer is to compare the mod size with the original. if the original is much bigger, the mod is 99% a patch that needs to be loaded after the original.

 

I guess VSW_TOTSP_abotBoats.esp is a patch changing only boat routes to moved Solstheim so it needs to be loaded after the original abotBoats* mods

I am also getting this error.

 

Nevermind found it:

 

abot boats which I didn't even know of since think that mod long gone.

->

There a small optional patch included in Popular Solsteim tomb of snow prince of it.
