Custom armor doesn't leave character after unequip.

So I made an armor set that was basically a cannibalization of some of my favorite mods (so no uploading). I ticked Shadow Map in blender, chacked all my textures in NifSkope, pathing is correct. The armor shows up and functions perfectly fine in-game and in the GECK. The problem comes when I try to unequip it. It does successfully unequip (stats revert to normal) and the "naked" vanilla body mesh shows up.

 

However, the mesh from the armor persists, clipping into the body mesh as it's there now too. The clipped mesh also persists through quick and normal loads. the only way to stop it is to quit to Windows and reboot the game from a save where I don't have the armor equipped. If anyone could take the time out to help me (I think the issue is with Blender), thanks.
