Googly Eyes! HELP PLEASE.

So... I created custom textures for some races... When I was finished adding stats, body textures/meshes, etc., I added the eyes in the CS, I noticed that in-game they were messed up, "googly" I guess you'd call them.

Was wondering if anyone could help me fix this problem, or if anyone is having the same problem as me and we can help eachother?

BIG thanks to anyone who can help!

The symptom of googly eyes comes from using the wrong eye textures on eye meshes they weren't made for. Eye meshes are assigned to the race, a race does only have 1 set of eye meshes, whereas the eye colors (texture) you can choose can be used by every race and mixed up.

If you know where the textures you want to use on your race's eyes come from, make sure you also make it use the very same eye meshes they were meant for. Mixing up eye textures from different sources in one race is only even possible, if all sources are designed for the same texture layout on their eye meshes.

If you took the eye colors for example from a custom race you like, make sure you select the same eye meshes this custom race uses. Or make a copy of them in your own race's folder and use that one, so you're not dependant on the custom race you took from.

Alright, I'll take a look and let you know if its fixed

EDIT: So.. I went back into the CS, made sure everything was ok.. And when I went to the Face Data/Gen whatever its called tab, it showed everything alright. Once I launched the game, and clicked "New Game," the hair was wrong, giving me vanilla hairs instead and not allowing me to change them, and the eyes were still googly, and wouldn't allow me to change those either... Really upset I just spent HOURS working on this and it's a bust :(

NOTE: ALL the hairs, eyes, and headmeshes (including eye mesh) are from the specific race I took the hairs from, and the eyes from. And the eyes and hairs were meant for Ren's eye mesh, and head mesh.... I'm not sure what's going on.

Hmm, if everything's looking fine in the CS, that's the first step done right.

There can still be some things off, as the game's always far more touchy than the CS, but I wonder why even the selections you created don't show up ingame.

Are you using a bashed patch? If you do, keep in mind you always have to "recompile" it once you changed a plugin in your load order, in this case your own race. It could be the bashed patch preserves the old settings from before you did the fixes, if it wasn't recompiled after the fix.

Is your own race in any way dependant on another plugin? Like did you open Ren's while you were working on your plugin and used records from Ren's in your's? If that's the case, be aware that ESP-mastering is something the regular CS will not support. An ESP can only be depending on ESMs, every other dependance is lost on save. The Construction Set Extender (CSE) allows for ESP-mastering right away, so this'd be a prefered editor.

You can create a 'copy' of everything from Ren's you want to use on your race, so it will only ever require the resource files but no plugins' records. Read up on "mod de-isolation" for more details about the issue and how to remove such dependancy or get it done right.

Hair selection usually 'hangs up' as soon as you come over a hairstyle that isn't setup correctly. But as none of the hairstyles you assigned to your race show up at all, that boils down to something else more likely.

Just in case, what's your game version and the version of your CS? There can also be issues when one of them is not on par with the other, that's why I'm asking.

I haven't seen this one for a while. Here is my old canned answer - It is probably still appropriate.

Most eye problems (Black eyes, googley eyes, no eyes etc)are related to having too many 'beauty' type mods installed. Each one wants to control how the eyes look and you get something strange. black eyes, no eyes, googly eyes, strange color etc. Look for mods such as 'beautiful people' and any custom race mod. disable all of them and see if you get the vanilla eyes back. Then reinstall the mods one at a time until you find the one that is causing the problem.

Beautiful People was one of the early mods that changed eyes, and many of the later mods used a different technique causing a conflict resulting in strange eyes. Some race mods change the eyes while others do not.

By bashed patch you mean?.....

My Oblivion is updated to... 1.2.0.416

TES I'm pretty sure is updated to the latest, because I just recently installed it.

As for the race, here's everything I used for my custom one:

Strangers Refine

http://oblivion.nexusmods.com/mods/42723 - this included the hair, eyes, and headmesh's I used....

x117 Rabbit Mini Race

http://oblivion.nexusmods.com/mods/37515 - I used the ears and the tail from this(Was trying to create an "Elin" inspired race for myself, from Tera.)

If the body mod matters, I used HGEC - AAcup and LL for lower body.

Then after I installed all of that I created my custom face texture, which I applied when putting it all together in CS.

Well, the thing is, I just reinstalled Oblivion. Wanted to start over with modding for it... I only have a few things active, which were the links that I showed above ^^^^^, and a few animations, and armors. Also the Custom Race Fix and Coronerras Skeleton. So, I don't have a lot of mods installed right now.

Also, the only race with the googly eyes is my custom one... All the Vanilla ones are fine, and the Strangers Refine race.
