Game Frozen, but Console Still Works...

I have Skyrim SE, Win 7, MO2, many mods. Its been working for some time but I now have this problem:

Game appears to be running fine. I hit tab to go into inventory. The game freezes. However; the console still works. I hit tilda, the console opens. I can enter things and the console responds. But everything else is frozen solid. I must control-alt-delete to get out.

It seems to happen when I want to open a chest, but that may be coincidence.

Also, the two most recent mods installed are Amazing Follower Tweaks SE and Immersive Citizens - AI Overhaul SE. I have tried uninstalling them but that didn't fix it. Maybe I didn't uninstall them right? They were working for a few days fine before the trouble.

Any ideas? Thanks so much!

How long do you wait for the chest contents to appear before you go to console?

IFF you have a large personal inventory, opening your inventory, opening chest, looting bodies, etc will take progressively longer as your inventory tally grows.

I *think it has to do with how database loading is handled in skyrim.

In any case, IFF you do have a large personal inventory (for instance if you have amulets or other tricks that allow you to carry 10-20K lbs of stuff), it may take up to about a minute for the inventory, chest, bodies, etc to open.

So, IFF you do have a large personal inventory, to fix it, you'll need to get rid of a large chunk of your personal inventory, then create a new save, then reload the new save (you may even need to exit the game and restart, then load the new save.

You can do so by going vendor to vendor and selling it off, or dumping it to chest(s) in your player home(s)

My personal inventory has once again crept up to an absurd value (I'm at about 13,000), and I'm seeing ~20-30 second delays in opening inventory/chest/etc

fwiw. it might pertain to your situation, or it might not.

Did you install those two mods in an ongoing game? If you did you must go to a save before you installed those mods and play from there.

You should never install, uninstall, or update mods while in an ongoing game unless you know what you are doing or the mod author says it is safe to do so. When you install a mod and then save it quite often bakes data into that save, especially if it is a scripted mod, which means uninstalling the mod does you no good as the data is baked into the save. Despite what you may hear there is no reliable way to remove that, you must go to a save before you installed that mod.

Sorry for the two posts, it was inadvertent. I would fix this if I knew how.

Perhaps someone could tell me how to remove one of my posts.

are you running an ENB by any chance, as it sounds like you are triggering the ENB Menu or any of its hotkeys whenever you hit tab, which could freeze the game until the menu is closed.

also check m02 to ensure their is no hotkeys for TAB,

the *Tab* key is a typical default key used for hotkeys. so it could be triggering a hotkey by any program that uses it as a hotkey. such as overlays, ie Steam, Nvidia Shadowplay, etc etc.

however with that said, the only thing i know of that freezes the game, is the command *TM* with the Console Open.

basically meaning, *Toggle Menus*, when this is off, the game will freeze whenever the Console is open, and unfreeze when either the console is closed or TM is toggled on. but ye, i suspect you are triggering a hotkey.

*TM 0* + Console open = game freeze

*TM 0* + Console closed = back to normal

*TM 1* = back to normal
