The idea is that when the player and NPC reload they can do so only when walking, not running.

For the player there would be two ways to do this: either script it so that the player automatically goes to walking everytime they reload.

Or make running and reloading a perk requirement for a new custom perk (recommended) and make a message pop up like "You cannot run when reloading" when you try to reload running. This means however that the player will have to go to walking speed manually(by holding shift or with caps lock).

I think this is pretty easy to make/script but since I can't script for s#*! I made this mod request.

The reason why is obviously for a bit of realism since in real life even experienced gunmen have a real hard time reloading and walking at the same time let alone running!

Most actually stop and stand still when they reload.

IRL, you are at your most vulnerable while reloading. Trained/experienced shooters move from cover to cover in short "dashes" of 3 seconds or less, and reload while under cover only, because you almost always end up having to take your eyes off the environment momentarily in order to align the tightly fitting magazine/rounds/"speed loader" with the weapon or spend more time "fumbling" the fit. "Stopping" at any movement rate "in the open" makes you the ideal target.

Leaving cover at "faster than a walk" is certainly feasible. Don't expect a script to overcome poor tactics on the part of the player. There are mods that help NPCs do this. Try combinations of:

  • Enhanced NPC Awareness

  • Enemy AI - Tactics - NPC Healing

  • Combat Enhancer

  • Cover Based Stealth Mechanics
