Easy Modder and CTD Helper For Skyrim

Just in case your game locks up or freezes in the future click and hold "(Ctrl+Alt)" then "Del". Once Task Manager starts click "Options" then "Always on Top". Now Task Manager is always there to end a not responding program, any program, not just Skyrim.

These directions will show you how to install tons of mods and avoid the most common problems. You may also be able to repair a CTD(Crash To

Desktop) game.

Donate and join NEXUS. Install "Nexus Mod Manager(NMM),Tes5Edit, LOOT(old version was called BOSS), and Wrye Smash". I made a folder called "A Mod Tools" to keep everything together in.

On Nexus site only, download every Skyrim mod you think you may like but only "Download With Manager" files. (Some files need to be clicked "Download Manually" just to see the "Download with Manager")

Game needs to be started and have at least one "Save" preferably indoors. Open Nexus Mod Manager and click plugins. Now uncheck everything that is checked.

In NMM, install one mod at a time and after each mod click "plugins". Be sure to verify the plugin has the same name as the mod you just installed or add the plugin name first in the mod so if you ever have a problem you can find the defective plugin.

Uncheck all plugins again and install another mod. Do this until you have every mod installed you want or up to 250 mods.

After installing all mods go to plugins again and check every box you unchecked, meaning check all mods.

Let's try to clean the mods now. Open "Tes5Edit", right click and "Select None". Now... Starting at the top click "Skyrim" and at the bottom click "Ok". Once it has finished right click the same file(no subcategories) and select "Apply Filter For Cleaning" and when it finishes right click again and select "Remove "Identical to Master" record". Now you will see a Warning and at the bottom right select "Yes, I'm Absolutely Sure". Again wait and right click this time click "Undelete and Disable Refrences". Next close the box and if another box pops up to save the changes click "yes" or "ok" Continue doing this until every mod has been cleaned.

Run "LOOT", click "Edit Metadata", then click "Save Changes". Click "LOOT", "Sort Plugins", then "Apply". At the top, click "Details" and go all the way looking for anything that will Crash to desktop or requires Dragonborn, Heathfire, or anything you do not have. Keep the list open and look in Nexus Mod Manager for those plugin names and uninstall. Remember you just cleaned every mod so if there is a problem of any sort just uninstall that mod, you got plenty to take it's place anyway.

Now open "Wrye Smash". On the very bottom you will see a pen and paper icon called "Mod Checker", click it. On the bottom of the pop up click "Scan for UDR's". Uninstall with NMM every mod that needs cleaning or has a problem. Close "Wrye Smash" and recheck until you see "Congratulations all mods appear clean." If you have Dragonborn just ignore the warning because that is a Steam screwup not yours.

While you are in Wrye Smash right click on "Bashed Patch" and select "Rebuild Patch" then "Select All" at the top and bottom then "Build Patch".

4. Run LOOT again. Start game, no problems, make another save.

5. OK, you want to verify everything is perfect or you did something wrong and the game Crashes To Desktop(CTD) when you try to play it? Open "Tes5Edit_log.txt" and if you do not see it next to TesEdit, make a new text document and name it "Tes5Edit_log.txt" and open it. On the top click "Select all" then "Cut" then open "File" and "Save". Reopen the file and it should be empty.

Open "Tes5Edit", right click and "Select all" then at the bottom "Ok". Once finished close "Tes5Edit" and open "Tes5Edit_log.txt". On the top right click "Find" in the box type "fatal" or "Fatal" and click "Find Next". If you find anything, DELETE THAT MOD IN NMM!

After Delete of all "Fatal" messages redo "LOOT" and open "Wrye Smash" and right click on "Bashed Patch" and rebuild it again.

One more time... Open "Tes5Edit_log.txt" again, "Select all, Cut, File, Save" and it will be empty. rerun "Tes5Edit" and right click and "Select all". Once finished, close and open ".txt, find, fatal, "nothing... you are done...

Also if you have any green colored worded mods in "Wrye Smash" right click on them and click "Mark Mergable" then "Ok". You can now uncheck the green worded mod, unless it is already unchecked, and have room for one more mod but you still need to rebuild your "Bashed Patch" again.

Hope this helps...
