faces are beyond me. bodies are another thing.

For bodies, it simply means swapping meshes (derived in Bodyslide) , and where necessary, swapping textures, or just using racemenu to modify them in game via a secondary character racemenu launcher like The Manipulator (See Lover's lab)

I don't know of a specific tutorial but there are various posts here at Nexus in these Skyrim special edition help forums that can help with details on body work if you scan the various posts.

For older CBBE derived bodies, it can be as easy as using an accompanying bodyslide (if it includes one) or creating your own "my follower" preset by selecting the right base preset to mimic your followers original body) and tweaking it until it compares favorably to snapshots of the original

For UNP based bodies, I've found that installing BHUNP as a secondary body type can help, as it works well to match UNP features. Same deal overall as CBBE conversions though. You need to use a BHUNP base preset then tweak it until it matches your follower

then you save the preset as a base model "my whomever follower", then modify that as needed. (and save the modified version)

Output meshes from Bodyslide are directed to a dummy working folder using the Settings > Advanced > Output Path entry, so they can be manually put in place of the character's original meshes once bodyslide tweakwork is completed.

Build Morphs should be checked if you intend to use racemenu on them later (which you will probably benefit from)

I've found it useful to create two directories in the character's meshes folder, one called "backup" and the other "new meshes" , the first to copy your original ,meshes to so you have a backup in case you're not happy with your results and want to punt back to a "safe place", and the latter as a staging folder for manually placing your new meshes (at which point you can copy them to the character mesh folder to overwrite the originals(since you have a backup)

When you copy your follower's existing meshes to the backup folder, check to see if the folder also has a skeleton. If so, you'll also want to copy that to the archive folder and when you make your mesh replacement, replace the existing skeleton with the standard female (or male as required) skeleton (if it has one in its meshes folder, it means it expects to see its skeleton in that folder, not elsewhere) You can also use nifskope to change the references address to the skeleton, but it happens so infrequently, I've found it much easier to just drop a copy of the new XPMSSE skeleton in place of theirs IFF they have a skeleton in their meshes folder already.

Don't forget to build the body, the feet, and the hands

Make sure to use presets designed for the body type you're going to work on.

good luck. sorry I can't offer any info on face sculpting for regular NPCs.

I *think* there's a mod around here someplace that allows you to "steal the face" of an NPC. (I don't have a name off hand, but some googling with "Skyrim special edition steal face" or similar might yield a result)

It's *possible* that you could use one of those, (after archiving your own face content, textures & meshes & whatever else (I've never done it myself), then use racemenu as player to sculpt the face (or just tweak it via the various face/mouth/eyes/hair/etc sliders), then copy the results back to the NPC from which it was "stolen"

BUT... I have no idea if that would work or not.

I used those terms and it didn't cough up the name of the mod I'm referring to, but it did offer this, which *might be helpful to you.
