3D Character Creation workflow question (Fallout 76)

Hi everyone, real noob here with what will almost certainly be an odd question! I make in-game film in Fallout 76 and have been animating characters for my Machinima with Adobe Character creator. I want to move to a 3D character creator and animating engine, but in order to make that decision I need to know that I can reliably import game files (clothing particularly).

 

I can extract NIFs and then export as .OBJ, but once I get to that point I am lost in terms of diffusion maps and, well, all the stuff that makes things look right. Because I have a fairly rigid workflow, I am hoping that someone with knowledge in these areas might be able to help with some guidance so I can test a workflow to see if I should invest in a new character creation tool.
