I figured I'd throw this mod out there since there seems to be immersion & overhaul mods left right and centre popping up and so far there seems to be a lack of good mods that add more creatures to the game that fit in well to the Skyrim landscape.

I figured I'd throw some suggestions on here, all of which are mammal species that are either extinct or still living and lived or still inhabit woodland or Arctic tundra environments.

First I would like to suggest are musk ox. These are hardy animals which inhabit the arctic and group together to defend themselves and young against predators: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Muskox .

Second species I thought might be an interesting addition was the wolverine. These are about the size of a small/middle sized dog and can be quite vicious in defending their food and they've been known to attack larger animals like wolves on their own: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wolverine .

Thirdly I thought Ibex might be a cool addition since the are larger goats that tend to be found on mountain tops with large horns that could be used in defense: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alpine_ibex .

Fourth addition that I believe would fit in very well are the lynx. They are a species of big cat which roam the forests and ambush their prey and are often undetectable. They can tackle anything from a rabbit to a deer: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eurasian_lynx.

Another large herbiverous species that might be as fierce as the massive wholly mammoths is the elasmotherium (giant one horned rhino). They were most likey very dangerous creatures when tackling, being close to the same size as a mammoth and & likely could kill with a single gorge from it's massive horn. I believe they most likey inhabited open plains: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elasmotherium .

The Auroch is another large species, basically wild cattle that roam woodland regions and grassland. These were fierce when approached or cornered and had the neck muscles to toss a man into the air: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aurochs .

Another species of bear once roamed the plains known as the short faced bear. I believe this species was taller than a man at the shoulder and had legs for running and chasing down large game. It would most likely have had the power to bring down bison or moose and an encounter with this creature would have most definetly have been a fatal one: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Short-faced_bear

I was also thinking red squirrels might be something since there is a lack of small animals in the woodland regions of Skyrim. Apart from collected nuts and evading pine martins and birds of prey: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Red_squirrel .

Lastly two species which are both semi aquatic are the otter and the beaver. Beavers tend to live in woodland areas in either rivers or lakes. They live off trees by knawing them and building dams with the trunks and using branches to build their family homes: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beaver . Otters are small slender creatures that can live in both rivers and seas and tend to hunt creatures that dwell on the sea bottom and they can also come onto land to hunt for food: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Otter

Right now these are my suggestions for a more realistic wild environment. If you have any more ideas then feel free to add them as I know my list is a bit short and skyrim could probably do with more birds, reptiles, lizards as well. if you're a modder that like my suggestions then feel free to give me some feedback on my requests and work on it to you're hearts content.

Okay, so I had written a looooong post but I accidentally turned off the computer, so I'll just post the tl;dr version.

I'll follow this and try to make sure modders add these, and hope you may as well find some other fantasy-fitting creatures, maybe some type of small bristleback found in the rift near the morrowind border or the tundra in windhelm?

I'd love a mod like this. Please continue. I'll watch this by day and make sure it gets what it deserves.

Why hadn't more replied? :(

One, that's a bump, and two, the OP is only suggesting Diverse Mammals, not true Wildlife. That's probably guiding people away.

However, since the title DOES say "Wildlife," it won't be officially hijacking to steer the thread towards other animals.

...Before I get around to such, just lemme say this: Do NOT use hyperlinks that don't have http:// at the start! Those will force-change the page, rather than opening a new tab! The reason it does this is that it's treated as a Nexus Forum page.

Penguins. Yes, penguins. Who doesn't wanna see a penguin? And there are so many different kinds!

Owls. Yeah! Those freaks that can turn their head an insane amount and then turn it the other way so rapidly you don't even notice they turned it the other way!

Pikas. Yes, they're small little rodents, but they'd fit in Skyrim.

Pythons--yeah. A snake that can survive the cold (it can shiver for heat).

Turtles: See python.

Yeah I guess the hyperlinks probably don't work since wikipedia doesn't use "http:// " Anyway I guess your right about my OP only being mammals. I thought I'd let other people add some suggestions. I was also thinking the Roc might be a good addition. It's a giant bird of prey probably about the same size as a dragon but I'm not sure if that would make the game any more immersive, it is also a fantasy creature. The Teratorn was an ancient bird of prey that lived before the ice age, it was also quite large but maybe only big enough to carry off a juvenile carcass of some mammals and probably lived more like a vulture. Skyrim doesn't really have any reptiles or snakes either. Maybe adders slithering about the grass might add more realism. Another fantasy creature called the Basilisk could be added to the more southern parts of Skyrim. I think they sort of resemble Komodo dragons but could turn a man to stone. I doubt that could be implemented in anyway but I thought it was worth the suggestion. I have some more ideas but I might do some more research look and maybe work on a concept for them before adding them. More suggestions are welcome too.

I've thought a musk ox would have been a nice addition too.

And then there's the saiga antelope, a tundra antelope from siberia with a short trunk. http://www.manataka.org/images/Saiga%20Antelope%20Gnu.jpg

And in the sea I think it would be amazing if somebody could add whales, like orcas or right whales.

Yeah, the land has mammoths and the sky has dragons, the Sea of Ghosts needs it's own epic-sized creatures.

Yes I think the Siaga would make a nice addition too since it is very strange looking and I'm sure they roam in quite large numbers too. I also very much agree that the ocean is the way to go with more creatures since there is only a handful of fish and the slaughter fish that you might cross paths with on occasion.

Basilosaurus was a early species of whale which had a long body and probably had no natural predators, I believe they would fit in and make you think twice about going for a swim. The Kraken was an old norse legend of a sea creature which dwelled in the depths of the sea and would rise up to the surface and attack ships and take crew overboard. I think they would also make for a frighting experience crossing the glacial coast of skyrim

I've only got a couple of other ideas here and I'll add them since I'm on.

An early giant species of pig called Entelodont once lived in ancient north america and probably chased off a lot of creatures from kills and may have also been large enough to kill it's own prey, I think this picture gives a fairly accurate representation of what they looked like:

A species which might have lived around the same time as this was the bear-dog. It probably doesn't sound scary but if you compare it to the size of a man and you'd probably not take any chances approaching it for fear or losing life or limb:
