Trouble installing mods

I'm using the vortex mod manager to install my mods. I only have Improved UI and the various class mods. Once I get them installed the game starts as normal, but the buttons on the character creation have long strings of garbage text. Once I start the game, I'm on a generic map with 4 generic human characters that I cant see.
My game and Vortex are up to date, I have all required mods, and my load order is right.

Has anyone else had this problem?

Had that problem both with Vortex and Candor. The latter of which was infuriatingly hard for me to figure out and use. Eventually I uninstalled all mods, verified all the install files through GOG Galaxy, and tried to just play normally... and now I show as being incumbered no matter how much (or how little) weight I am carrying and I cannot click on any buttons (actually did the tomb quest to get the spear - and got it - but could not activate the trap for whatever reason).

I'm thinking that mod development for this game has a long ways to go before novice users like myself will be able to get in on the action with any semblance of success.

Maybe I'll make another go of it and just try to leave out the class and race mods.

This "testing area" also happens with manual installation and with several mods, it does not seem to be specific to a certain one. As long as you choose a profile where the mods are disabled in the lsx, everything starts fine.

I use gog and the latest version 5707. Maybe the OP can say whether he uses steam or gog. And which version of the game. Maybe a newer update of the game introduced that error.

Delete your "Baldur's Gate 3" folder under "Larian Studios" in "My Documents", and repair your GoG installation. If you installed mods with loose files, make sure you backtrack and delete the ones you replaced, before repairing. Make sure no mods for BG3 are in Vortex download- or Vortex mod staging-folders.

Then make sure Vortex isn't running, before you start up the game, once. Create a profile and exit the game.

Now start Vortex, and make sure it is configured correctly. Go to Nexus and download a mod with the "Mod manager" button. Install it, and enable it within Vortex. Make sure you accept to Elevate when Vortex asks for it.

Then check the Larian Studios\Baldur's Gate 3\Mods folder and see if any .pak file got installed. (Or any other files that "preview download" in your chosen mod, showed you)

Now boot the game, create a character, and check if it works. (tip; choose a mod that you'll easy can recognize after a few minutes of playtime)

If it works; Install the mods you like, create a new profile (or re-use) and create a new character (important!) and start the game all over again, with your new mod setup.
