Witt78
I'm fairly computer savy, but new to textures and *.dds files, etc. I'm in the process of modding Skyrim. I got the game running as fast as possible through my ini files and now I'm trying to fill my video card memory with custom textures. I've installed 34 texture mods/packs so far. Everything looks GREAT! Except for this one texture that I quickly bumped into. I have not played much as I am still modding, so I may find more errors like this one; but not so far. The glitched texture seems to arrise only in ice caverns, so far as I can tell. I already have FRAPS, Handbrake, and a YouTube account so let me post a video displaying the problem. Then I'll list my 34 texture mods. YouTube Video ==> --------------------------------------------------*NOTE* I used the texture pack combiner to "Combine" a lot of these mods. However, Nexus Mod Manager threw a fit when I attemped to install the .rar file as a mod. (Said the rar was bad. Bad CRC) So I ended up backing up a copy of my Vanilla Skyrim and simply copying my "Textures" and "Meshes" folder into Skyrim/DataI then later added textures, without the use of the texture pack combiner by simply copying the textures in manually.** MOD LIST ** Skyrim HD 2k Texture PackSerious HD RetextureSkyrim Realistic OverhaulSkyrim Flora OverhaulBetter Dynamic SnowDetailed ChestsSkyrim Mesh Improvement ModQuality Snowflakesreal Ice All-In-OneRadiant + Unique Potions, Poison, BoozeEnhanced Night SkyrimHQ Skyrim MapsRuins Clutter ImprovedHD LinensHD MiscSkyrim HD EnvironmentsHD Ore + IngotsHD Sacks RetextureHD Soul GemsHQ PaperBumpy Inn + Shop SignsAOF FarmhousesAsh Pile RetexBetter Rocks + MountainsDesigns of the NordsDetailed RugsHectrol Caves <=== Kudos, this rulesHectrol Spider WebsHQ Food + IngredientsHigh Quality WorkbenchHigh Realistic Tundra MossHQ Town VillagesLangley's Wood Metal and Stonelangley's Imperial Tents Help Help HelpThanks Thanks Thanks - Witt PS - FYI... (This may be important... I had a reproducable crash to desktop problem when entering Uttering Hills Cave or loading any save game near it, fast traveling to it, etc... I disabled my "Better Dynamic Snow.esp" and the crashes stopped.) http://s13.postimage.org/j56xx7cjb/Capture.jpg PPS - As Skyrim Realistic Overhaul can't currently be downloaded off the Nexus, I had to hunt for a copy of it. All I could find was the texture pack and it's 1.3 update. (It's up to at least 1.6 currently.)
Witt78
SHAZAM! Found a copy of SRO 1.6 with Dawnguard. Good 'ole *not allowed*. https://<url snipped> It's downloading FAST too. - Witt And that last bit of humour was your last action here. Obviously you knew piracy would bring the BanHammer. --TNL :pirate: Edited March 9, 2013 by Thandal poster banned.

BTW, when i've watched the video, the first mod i thought about was Better dynamic snow. edit: uninstall every pack related to rocks/cave etc..and check in game which one is the culprit (uninstalling can be easy, just copy past the texture in a new folder^^ with so much texture you probably must use TPC, it's a bit tricky to install, but handy when you use a lot of High res text pack. oops :P@@ Been a member long enough to know better than to condone piracy here. --TNL Edited March 9, 2013 by Thandal poster banned. Witt78
I've gone ahead and reverted all the way back to Vanilla. Then I ran the Texture Pack Combiner again, this time ONLY with the three "Required" mods. (HD2K, SHD, SRO) I'm going to simply copy the "Textures" folder into "Data", but then I'm going to load the game and check out several area types. If everything looks cool, then I'll back up my "Data" folder entirely before installing the next mod. Rinse, repeat. That way, even though I'm not using a mod manager, I can back off a faulty install if need be. (Unless of course I don't run into the bug until 8 hours of game play from now. lol) Also, installing these things manually gives me a chance to look at the files a little closer. It's clear to me now that "AOF Farmhouses" and "HQ Town Villages" are almost completely redundant after my texture combiner addition.Anyway... So far so good. My glitched "Uttering Hills Cave" texture is working again. This is slow going, but I'm going to keep adding textures until I'm hard pressed to find a vanilla one. Then it's time for ENB, so I can get rid of all these FPS. hehe - Witt PS - I'm running an 18 month old Radeon HD 6750 that cost me $85. lol It has a broken cooling fan to boot. (I had to rip the cooling fan off an ANCIENT GeForce card and crazy glue it to my heat sink... MUHAHAHA!Vanilla install with nearly maxed settings (All but max FSAA and Anisotropic Filter) gave me a whopping 14 FPS. After some light reading and INI tweaks, I'm cruising at 30-40. (50'ish if I'm staring at my shoe laces.)

I actually have my FSAA turned completely off on my rig. FSAA = Full Screen Anti-Aliasing... I don't like FSAA for a couple reasons. First, it applies the filter to the entire screen at whatever multiple of times you have it set at. (2x, 4x, 8x, etc) Anti-Aliasing is only needed on the edges of models, IMHO... I also don't like spending GPU power on it because games run at such high resolution these days. I don't play games at 800x600 or 1024x768 anymore, and there for a lack of FSAA isn't blatantly obvious. I wonder if you switch yours off, then turn on FXAA (Fast where Appropriate Anti-Aliasing) and then add the following to the very end of your SkyrimPrefs.ini (If you don't have it already) http://s12.postimage.org/wmrjzwvzh/Capture.jpg ...I bet you'd get a huge FPS boost above your already decent performance. ...And you'd have to look really hard to tell the difference. The BlurShader adds a really nice effect to your screen while saving your GPU some work, AND doing the work of FSAA in a round about way. The only time my lack of FSAA really jumps out at me is on a loading screen where I'm looking at a single model against a solid black background.
