How to convert a "Skyrim LE" nif into a FO4 nif?

Recommended Posts

Good evening everybody!

How would one convert a nif file made for Skyrim into a nif file that works with FO4?

For example a "modders resource" file that is "free to use for everyhing" ...

I know that FO4 uses a different material system (the bgsm file) and that that would have to be "set up by hand", but I mean the actual mesh itself.

Because my inital approach was to load the Skyrim nif into 3DSMAX and to then export it as a FO4 nif.

But that would mean I would have to completley redo the UV unwerap.

Is there any way "convert" a Skyrim nif to a FO4 nif while keeping the UV unwrap of the mesh intact?

(I know I would have to assign material files "by hand" but that is not that much work ...)

I think you can import Skyrim nifs into Blender (using the niftools addon), then export as Wavefront obj, then import the obj to Outfit Studio or Max, then export as a FO4 nif, then run the nif through Elrich?

Or import export with just Outfit studio

Also manually create materials

Good!

GOOD!

VERY GOOD!

I will try that and see if I can get it to work for me ...

Thanks!

I have never tried messing around with OS ...

But I have heard that is a good way to get OBJs into NIFs ...

So the "workflow" is this:

  1. Convert Skyrim NIF to OBJ with Blender
  2. Convert that OBJ into a FO4 NIF with whatever-you-like (OS, 3DSMAX, ...)

So OBJ files can actually have "UV mapping" information?

I never knew that ...

1) Import Skyrim nif into Skyrim OS.
2) Export as obj
3) Load that obj into FO4 OS
4) Select "Edit->Remove Skinning"
5) Export as nif.
6) Load nif into NifSkope
7) select all non-standard nodes like "BSSubIndexTriShape" and right-click then select "Block->Convert->BSTriShape"
8) add your materials etc
9) profit.

Thank you!

I will try that once I get my new harddrives (I don't have enough space to download the Skyrim OS, right now ...)
