Zero Happiness Bug script work-arounds?

I installed a mod that created a settlement at the Atom cats place.

However, the settlement requires a quest to activate the workbench, and what a lot of people seem to have experienced is that they get the zero happiness bug - the settlement scripts don't initialise correctly. You can't send settlers to the place, and a whole lot of other things go wrong.

In this case the problem seems to be connected to the quest directing you to go to the area, and something seems to trigger the workbench as you load that area, possibly the HUD associated with Sim Setttlments?

The general solution since the game has been released is just try reloading an earlier save, going through the quest again, and hoping it works next time.

I know that ultimately this is a Bethesda bug, and they don't fix their bugs. But is there a workaround? Is there any technical approach a modder could take to fix that workbench?

It seems odd that no-one has written a script that can fix a workbench. I presume it must be impossible or someone would have done it, but I don't know. I have seen modders in recent years do what I had for years been told was impossible.

So is that the truth? Is reloading an earlier game the only answer? In which case, I wish modders wouldn't have long quests associated with settlements. I really appreciate the type where you just have to kill all monsters and then click on something to get the job done!

Cough ... Workshop Ownership Utilities ... cough.

 

The problem is most likely the WorkshopParent registration scripits which are fragile and easy to screw up. There are even purported authoritative "how to" guides that get it wrong. Plenty of articles attached to that solution which explain the issues.
