That's the latest version. Can you describe what you're doing step-by-step and what's happening? Also if it's getting stuck on a particular screen can you take a screenshot and post it here please? It'll help us work out what's happening.

This seems to happen when you do something else while NMM is still loading up, the message window (for the program update) pops under the main window and you need to alt+tab to it.

And now for my turn. I, too, am stuck at this same step. Already re-installed NMM 0.44.6 with no luck. I'll await a solution.

edited to add: Alright, let me add this. As *soon* as the program's main window popped up I grabbed it and started pulling it to the side of the screen. A message opened (that wasn't visible any other way) saying that my version was 'up to date'. Very odd. Would not reveal itself any other way that I found. I clicked 'okay'. Software works fine now.

*UNDER* the progress window is another message box. Depending on your resolution, it may be partially showing from behind it. If you simply click 'cancel' when NMM first opens, it will display the other window allowing you to click 'OK' and continue launching.

Sort of annoying.

Not sure if this is much help, I was having this problem today. I left it running all day, it never got through the "checking" process. Then I found on the start menu in the Nexus folder there was two. One being the standard "Nexus Mod Manager", then above that was "Nexus Mod Manager (Trace Mode)", I did not notice it at all, so I used task manager to close out the running NMM. Then selected the "Nexus Mod Manager (Trace Mode)" and the checking went through quickly and was able to install. Hopefully this is helpful to anybody who encounters the same thing again.
