Classic brown face bug problem

Hi I got classic error of blackface, honestly idntk wtf i am doing. I have many mods but i fear to lose saved game again trying to fix it. Black / dark brown faces are usually caused by mod conflicts. More precisely: Several mods trying to make changes to one and the same NPC. Notorious culprits are NPC replacers or NPC overhauls like e.g. the Bijin series, but also Immersive weapons (because it adds weapons to Vanilla NPCs thereby changing them) or dialogue mods (for the same reason).

 

The solution is to adjust your load order in a way, that the mods which you want to corntrol the appearance of certain NPCs are loaded AFTER anything else that makes changes to these NPCs. E.g. if you want Bijin's Lydia, place "Bijin Warmaidens" after/below everything else that makes changes to Lydia.

 

To ensure that non-conflicting changes are carried over, you should create a bashed patch with Wrye Bash. Check the "actors" box before creating the patch. It is unchecked by default.

 

If you're unsure, what mods make changes to NPCs, you can use SSEEdit:

 

1. Start SSEEdit in "normal" mode (NOT "quickautoclean")

2. On the starting screen, simply press "OK". Also press "OK", if a popup about the Unofficial Patch comes up.

3. Now klick on Skyrim.esm (or Dawnguard.esm / Dragonborn.esm if you're looking for a DLC character) in the left pane.

4. Find and expand "Non-player-character (actor)".

5. Search for the NPC that has a black face in your game. Click the name.

6. In the main window you will see all mods making changes to this character.

7. Remember / write down these mods. You should know your load order and recognize which is which.

8. You can now close SSEEdit.

 

Now rearrange your load order as described above: The mod that should control the appearance needs to be loaded after everything else that makes changes to the NPC. Create a bashed patch. Done.
