"Follow Me, I Need Your Help" Has No Effect!

I'd like to ask/beg for some help figuring out the cause of this particular problem. The dialogue option "Follow me, I need your help" gets the standard reply from followers (Lead the way!), but they don't actually do it. Activating them again brings up the same dialogue option. So it's an endless hellish loop.

 

- I have AFT as my only Follower mod, and a few custom followers. I currently have Vilja and Interesting NPC's Hjormir following my character.

 

- When I ask someone else to follow me and they "accept", I get a message saying "1 new minion added", and a counter that's been counting down from 25 every time I invite a follower. I'm guessing this is an AFT feature that's registering them as new followers despite the fact that they're not actually following me.

 

 

I've had a few bugs and problems here and there with mods that I figured out on my own in the end, but this one is stumping me. I don't get why certain followers work fine (Vilja, Lydia, Hoth and Hjormir have followed me intermittently from time to time) and others don't. Has anyone encountered this issue and gotten around?

Did you come to find a solution for this? I'm currently having this very same issue

Save your game then quit to desktop. Uninstall AFT. Start Skyrim with the regular loader (not SKSE) and make another save. Reinstall AFT and start the game, wait until you see the AFT load info show on the screen. After that everything should be back to normal.

unfortunately i don't think it's a UFO problem. Your suggestion doesnt work btw.

Its not an AFT issue, another mod is causing it because I use eff and the same thing happens. Might be a skse bug or something conflicting with 2> followers.
