Cannot Load Saves

My saves will not load anymore, I was having problems with AllGUD derivative and eventually my saves broke. I can start a new game and coc qasmoke, but cannot load the old saves in game after doing either of those. The game's loading screens come up, and then it crashes before the actual game starts, and this happens if I load in game, with the main menu load function, or the main menu continue function. My save has been cleaned as well as the game files verified through steam. Any ideas on what I could do? Here's my load order

Does it come up partially and then crash? If so, try loading the same save until it does (or doesn't). I sometimes experience a situation after installing a new mod where the save will load (ie I can see the surroundings and my character) but then crashes immediately. If I'm stubborn and try to load it several times, it eventually loads correctly. That is, something's choking during in-game initialization. Why it takes several idk, but eventually the problem goes away. Once it does load, i usually create a new save, exit the game, then clean the last save using Fallrim tools. sometimes it shows junk, sometimes not.

 

PS> Your pastbin is empty.

 

Worst case, you'll need to do "the thing"... start uninstalling mods in reverse order of installation to find the culprit.

Yep, sorry about that, check the spoiler. I've loaded it many times over the course of 4 or so hours while trying to fix the issue, and it crashes before the game appears unfortunately

Edit: My only recently installed mods (Nemesis, CGO, Attack Behavior Revamped, Stances and Stances Addon, FISS, Proteus, and reinstalls of XP32 and DAR) are not causing the problem. And to clarify, I was running the game perfectly fine with the entire load order I posted and it was all running great

to be honest, I'm not sure. In Vortex, (which is what I use) afaik, disabling a mod doesn't always shut down its resources, it simply disables the mod. Best practice in Vortex is to Uninstall the mod. If that's what "disabling" means in MO2 then sure, but if it works like 'disabling' in Vortex, I'd say no, it's not guaranteed sufficient to ensure that all residuals of the mod will be removed.

 

I'm afraid that you'll have to wait for a fellow MO2 user to answer that. Or chance it.

 

PS, just to be clear (whichever you do)

1) uninstall/(or disable) the last installed mod

2) open game and see if something will load... if any save will load (not just the last save)

3) if so, then you probably found the bad guy, make a new save from that point and clean the save

4) if not, go to step 1 to deal with the next to last installed mod...

 

Repeat and rinse as necessary. It can be unpleasant, especially if you bulk installed a wad of mods and then encountered an issue, but there it is

 

PS> if that IS the case (you bulk installed a bunch of mods)... I'd recommend that you not do so in the future, one by one is the safest way to go, tedious as it might seem

As far as I know, through MO2, you can either disable the mod in the load order, or disable the files of the whole mod, which is what I was doing. I'm not sure what to do at this point so I might just start a new game and turn my old character into a follower with Proteus lol

Gotcha, that's what I was doing, thanks haha. I think I'm going with the "new game, old character a follower" solution lol. It's not ideal, but at least I can get rid of mods and add mods onto a new character

One important thing.

DO NOT, under any circumstances, Install or Remove mods in the middle of a game with a character you care about.
Adding or removing mods from a game that has scripts etc baked into the save, will cause the index numbers of the mods to change, leaving all of the scripts baked into the save, as "orphaned" because they are still looking for the old mod with a specific prefix, and by adding and removing mods, you end up changing ALL of the prefixes of ALL the mods that load after the ones you removed ad/or added.

Have you looked at the save using FallrimTools and checked how many Unattached Instances you have in that save that crashes?

You could also be missing a master, if you happened to remove a mod
