Weird dismemberment bug (please help!)

Recommended Posts

I'd like to preface this with the fact that I started having this issue after using mods for over 80 hours without any issues.

Alright, down to the details... I installed NMC's large texture pack and started a new game to test it. I began walking around and murdering everyone in Goodsprings (testing lag, stability, visuals, etc.). After decapitating a few NPCs, I noticed that they had a second, larger neck stump around/through their normal one. I eventually made my way to Doc Mitchell's house and did the same to him. For whatever reason, I went outside and came back, when I entered his house, all of the limbs that had been taken off post-mortem had doubled. His head also had a clone that was missing hair, teeth, and eyes. I looked around and found consistent results with the other NPCs. I have disabled my mods, reinstalled them, started new games, sorted my load order, etc. and this is still happening. I've been able to find 3 other instances of this online, only 1 of which went into detail. E.PD. Gaffney was that person, they tried several solutions to no avail, and as of he had no solution. Below I will post my load order. (Note:it has changed since the problem began.)

0 0 FalloutNV.esm
1 1 DeadMoney.esm
2 2 HonestHearts.esm
3 3 OldWorldBlues.esm
4 4 LonesomeRoad.esm
5 5 GunRunnersArsenal.esm
6 6 ClassicPack.esm
7 7 MercenaryPack.esm
8 8 TribalPack.esm
9 9 CaravanPack.esm
10 a YUP - Base Game + All DLC.esm
11 b YUP - NPC Fixes (Base Game + All DLC).esp
12 c CASM with MCM.esp
13 d The Mod Configuration Menu.esp
I am also using FNV 4gb loader (not patch), as well as the newest version of NVSE.
Anyone who has any info, please help.

NMC doesn't affect "'actors" of any stripe that I am aware of. It seems to me your problem is more likely to be related to the "skeleton" used. Did you use a "body replacer" mod at all? If so, you may need to use a newer, more compatible skeleton such as "NV Compatibility Skeleton". Note these files can remain even if you start a new game with minimal mods because they overwrote vanilla files.

You may also want to check out "Issue - Blood-Gore-Limb Explosions and Dismemberment" under the "Graphics" section of the wiki "Fallout NV Mod Conflict Troubleshooting" article.

The "double limbs" sounds like a mod conflict, but I don't see how with that short list. Most likely it would be due to "leftovers" from a previous configuration. Please see the 'Restoring to "Vanilla"' entries in the 'First Timer Advice' section of the wiki "FNV General Mod Use Advice" article. If you are using an "empty Data folder" concept mod manager like NMM, MO, Vortex, etc., then be sure to try from a new, clean "profile" and check what you have in your "override" folder.

In general, if you haven't changed anything about your game and it suddenly stops working correctly you need to look to other causes: such as software updates to Windows, programming libraries such as ".Net", or hardware drivers. Older games eventually get dropped from product testing. It is also possible you are having problems with your hard drive. It never hurts to run "chkdsk" and an anti-virus scan.

FYI: If you recently had a Windows system update, you only have 10 days to revert to the previous version if you decide to choose that option.

Something which might be related is a "security measure" implemented by default in Windows called "Force randomization for images (Mandatory ASLR)". Please see the "Issue - Game will not launch on Win10 for security reasons" entry under the 'Starting the game problems' section of the wiki "Fallout NV Mod Conflict Troubleshooting" article. (Just added yesterday.)

I updated my graphics drivers for the first time after the issue started. I don't know if I've had any Windows updates, also, I use 10. I Haven't used any mods that change anything related to that other than EVE, Poco/Ojo Bueno, NME's medium and large texture packs (w/ official patches) (not at the same time), YUP, and a few other bug fixes (all mentioned in Tks-Mantis's video about remastering Fallout NV with mods.)

P.S. I read Issue - Blood-Gore-Limb Explosions and Dismemberment and didn't find anything, this isn't on the wiki either.

P.P.S. I don't have G.E.C.K., so it's not that.

All I can suggest is my last edit to post #4 above:
