TES5 Edit possibility causing CTD

Had a weird issue where my game would just crash once I try to leave Whiterun.

So I was cleaning up my dirty edits cause I noticed while running BOSS my Undate.esm, Dawnguard, Hearthfire and Dragonborn had dirty edits, especially Dawnguard.. around over 600 -_-

So I cleaned them up like Gopher shows in his video.

Started up the game as normal, and when I was about to load the outside area of Whiterun it just CTD.

I first thought it was the ENB or the ESP files that came with the ENB (Unreal Cinema ENB) But my game continued to crash even then.

So did the usual and and ran the Verify Game Cache in steam and restarted the game as normal. It ended up working, but then I used the TES5Edit again since the dirty edits came back just after the Verify Game Cache process.

I ended up CTD again... and so I whent on to check game cache again and this time I didn't use TES5Edit.

And the game works just fine now... so far.

------------

I know it sounds weird, but I did every possbile thing to eliminate any potencial causes like ESPs, ENB and so forth... it was only when I didn't clean the edits the game ended up running smooth.

So I just want to know if anyone have witnessed something like this and how I might be able to clean my dirty edits without potenially crash the game.

------------

I am fully aware there might be other causes, but after a lot of trial and error it only seems to be the TES5Edit cleaning that cause the CTD.

Your BOSS log indicates the plugins flagged by BOSS as containing 'dirty edits' have not been cleaned (otherwise, they would stop showing up as containing 'dirty edits'). My guess would be that something went wrong while you were following Gopher's tutorial. Remember that you will need to 1) remove identical to master entries and 2) undelete/disable deleted references. Once you have cleaned the plugins, you can quit TES5Edit and save the plugins, run BOSS again to make sure there are no 'dirty edits' warnings, then never clean them again. Clean only the plugins flagged by BOSS as containing 'dirty edits' and leave all other plugins alone for now.

I did the step by step from Gopher.. even viewed the video while doing so. Maybe I should just leave the dirty edits for now?... they don't seem to cause any problems at this point.

It's basically a 3 step process:

After you start TES5Edit and load up all the plugins,

1) select 'apply filter for cleaning', and wait for the scan to finish.

2) select a plugin flagged by BOSS as containing 'dirty edits.' Right click on it and select 'remove identical to master records.'

3) after that is done, right click on the plugin again and select 'undelete and disable references.'

Repeat step 2) and 3) for only the plugins flagged by BOSS as containing dirty edits. Do not repeat 'cleaning' any plugin. When you are done, quit TES5Edit, and a prompt will appear to ask if you wish to save the changes. Make sure all the plugins you cleaned have a check mark in that prompt box, then choose 'yes/ok.'

  • 10 months later...

After following Gopher's video (and essentially doing ripple's steps) i have caused my game to have several major bugs and missing files, is there a way i could possible revert it to its original state?

2 choices...

1) Revert back to the originals, they were saved in a folder in the Skyrim Folder >>>"\Skyrim\Data\TES5Edit Backups" (unless you UNticked Save Backups ) in that case....see #2

2) "Verify Integrity of game cache" in Steam
