load order customization from mods tab Manage Rules

So...

currently unless Vortex picks up on a contention, the only way to add a new rule is to use the plugins section (afaik), which requires successfully dragging a widget from one plugin to another. So far I've had very little success in that, since plugins are often separated by pages of entries, and the rule linkage origin marker seems to detach from my original plugin to whatever's at the top of the same currently viewed section of the list unless they're literally located only a few entries from each other. When a mod is an alphabetical A, and the one you want to attach a rule to is a Z (conceptually), it makes life rather difficult (for me)

In addition, there are times I'd like to ensure a given mod (with or without plugins) loads before or after another mod. EX: I'm having issues with a Halfmoon mill creek mod right now for instance, since its added resources are apparently being overwritten by something that loads later... the protion near lake inalta works ok, but the creek comes from nowhere, surely not from a stream near the cave....but there are no other custom location mods for that area in my build, so I suspect either one of the two "global overhauls" I have installed, the SMIM enhancement mod or Skyrim improved textures... Obviously, I'd like to ensure that the halfmoon mills mod loads after both so that it overwrites instead of being overwritten...(here I'm obviously implicating them in this.. And while I'm not sure, I can't even test the theory without disabling or uninstalling either SMIM or the Skyrim improved textures mods, which I really don't want to do, since both are relatively "fat" downloads ... especially the improve textures mod, and removing either *could destabilize the game or some aspect thereof)

Anyway, it sure would be nice to be able to set rules in the Manage Rules section (from mods tab) that include mods not already identified by Vortex as having contentions. Currently, if that IS possible, I'm not exactly sure how to make it happen.

What do you think? Am I off base? Is there an easy way already to accomplish this that doesn't require the drag-link thing (which rarely if ever works for me), and which isn't always applicable since not all mods contain plugins?

Thanks for reading.

Nope, I use the MANAGE RULES button on the Plugins tab exclusively instead of dragging and dropping.
Just click MANAGE RULES, and select one plugin for the left side drop down, (or start typing in the name of the plugin), then select a plugin from the right side dropdown (or start typing the plugin name)

Now, in the middle dropdown, you have three options MUST LOAD AFTER, REQUIRES, IS INCOMPATIBLE WITH, (I only ever use MUST LOAD AFTER)

Now, if you have the plugins in the wrong order, for instance, you want MOD B on the right dropdown to LOAD AFTER MOD A on the LEFT, just click the Button with the two arrows and it will swap MOD A and MOD B so MOD B is in the Left Dropdown, and MOD A will now be in the RIGHT Dropdown, now you can pick MUST LOAD AFTER, and a new rule is made without having to drag MOD B to MOD A.

I've requested this same Manage Rules thing be added to the MOD tab as well.
However, unless Vortex complains about a conflict for a MOD, there's no need to force a load order on the mod tab
If there's a conflict, then I just click on the Lightning Bolt that brings up a small dialog where I can select LOAD BEFORE or LOAD AFTER, I don't drag and drop

Yeah, I have no issues with the contentions panel that pops up when Vortex detects something, that's easy-peasy-pie (in general). It's mainly for situations where the mod isn't listed in mod rules (or I guess , ore specifically specifically its plugin)

So... I can just type in the name of a Plugin that isn't in that existing contentions listing(shown in mod rules) and it'll allow me to set up a new rule for it?

If so, cool, and thanks for the tip.

(I'll be back once I try it)

ah it works.... thanks HadToRegister.

No, that first screenshot is for PLUGINS, because you mentioned that you Drag and Drop plugins in the Plugins tab, and I showed a different and much easier way to do it, with the Manage Rules button on the Plugins Tab.

Understood. I realized that after the fact and then tried it. Not exactly what I wanted but ~close enough~

I do like the little tips it shows. Notified me that two of my plugins are loading in the wrong position, one of which I fixed while in there, and the other flagged plugin is missing the suggested partner plugin so I need to go get the file that has the necessary component (RDO final stuff) << the RDO MCM doesn't load...maybe now I know why...

thanks again for responding and for your help.
