Help importing / exporting custom armor.

Hello, I have been trying to import my custom made armor into the G.E.C.K for a few weeks but am unable to get it working. I give up with blender (I use Maya and 3Ds Max.) I am looking for someone who would be kind enough who knows what they are doing to walk my through the rigging, painting weights and exporting as well as importing into nifscope and then into G.E.C.K.

I am also wondering, do you have to use blender to export / rig the armor or can I use Maya or 3Ds?

I know what I am doing when it come to modeling and textures but rigging to a premade game skeleton with "meat ends" goes right over my head.

Before you say "there are tutorials online for it" I have looked at them all and they are all for blender and are all pretty vague.

please reply. I would greatly appreciate some help. (this is driving me insane.)

Pacifica94 - Hello!

I don't use those programs myself but there are guides for import/export of armor using 3ds Max on the Nexus Wiki.

This ones actually for New Vegas but the principles will be the same:

http://wiki.tesnexus.com/index.php/3ds_Max_armor_to_Fallout_New_Vegas

There's lots of 3ds Max articles on the Nexus Wiki, find them here:

http://wiki.tesnexus.com/index.php?title=Special%3ASearch&search=3ds+Max&go=Go

There's a document guide here:

Hope this helps!

Thank you, I spent 12 hours today trying to get this working... legit. I am almost there but I am having trouble getting it to work with GECK and nifscope. I have tried heaps of different guides but GECK always crashes when I try to import it. I am not sure what I am doing wrong. I open two instances of Nifscope (my armor in one and a vanilla armor in the other ) I then delete all the part of armor from the vanilla armor and copy the branch of my armor over. I edit the BSShaderPPLightingProperty and assign my DSS texture sheet. In one of the guides it says to edit the TSpaceFlag number in the NiTriShapeData of the NiTriShape node but it is not there. I have searched screen caps of this option but where it should be there nothing for me. This may contribute to my problem.

I followed the nifscope portion of this guide : http://wiki.tesnexus.com/index.php/Creating_an_armour_for_Fallout._Part_2

When i try to import it into GECK it come up with a heap of error messages saying: texture set missing texture HEV suit diffues.dds for model HEVsuit and then it says" BASE HEVsuit is missing a Diffuse map." followed by the fact that it is missing a normal map.

It then says :

Assert

File

c:\fallout3\Platforms|Common|BSSShader\BSBatchRenderer.ccp

Line 719

It then crashes.

I am getting so frustrated.

By the way i am remaking the HEV suit from Half-Life

Any help would be greatly appreciated. :)

  • 3 weeks later...

Some game engines are not compatible with some 3d-modeling software. I would do research and figure out if fallout 3's game engine is compatible with the 3d-model you are trying to import. Make sure you have created the correct type of 3d model to import, then try importing again.

This most likely is not your problem but is indeed one potential easy fix crash. Maya blender and 3ds max all come with multiple formats for a 3d model that are acceptable or unacceptable in different engines. So all you would have to do is verify that the model you are using is currently compatable with the engine it is interacting with. Then continue.

If blender easily transitions to GECK without much issue, but MAYA and 3DS are having issues. If its not easily configurable, then there is something technical going on underlying the structure of everything causing the conflicts. I suggest digging deep and do your reading to figure out what the potential causes might be. Then systematically test and debug them all the best of your ability.

Or you may just have to learn how to model in blender if you really really want to put your model in fallout 3. There are always other game engines that support maya as maya is a very popular 3d-modeling program.

Your problem might be that your item is missing UV maps, or your textures are not in the Fallout folder.

I only use Blender for my work, and I've been pretty successful, so if you can't make it work, I might be able to for you.
