Recommended Posts

hello everyone.

i've downloaded a mod that add a follower to the game but i dont like her haircut so i've been trying to edit the mod to change that.

i did not ask the creator for his consent and i dont know if i should since it's for my personal use only.

i tried to change it with the CK but to no avail since everytime i try something the same message error appear.

That is a paint set not the creation kit. Changing the hair on a follower is actually very complicated. Depending on how it was set up. If this is something you really wish to do. You may want to start by watching a few create a follower tutorials. This looks like a good start Changing Hair and Beard on Custom Follower Or you may want to try a mod that can change the hair. This one may help The Hairstyler. Here is a former thread on the subject

How to use Creation Kit to Replace Default Hairs There are also a few follower mods that have the ability to switch hairs and come with a few choices. (Hmmm what happen to all Asherz files).

Anyways that a good start. Good luck.

If it's for personal use, it's OK, but you WILL need permission from the mod author if you want to upload an edited mod anywhere. Otherwise, you can be banned from the Nexus for life if you uploaded it here.

As already said, it's quite a complicated process.

There are two types of elements that you see in-game:

1) the meshes, which are *.nif files. These are the 3-D shapes of the objects, sort of like a wire frame meshwork. You need a utility like Nifscope in order to edit these, EG to make the hair longer, shorter or a different style;

2) the textures, which are *.dds files. These are the actual colours and visuals and look really weird, as they are intended to wrap around the corresponding mesh, EG faces, clutter objects, hairstyles and colours etc. You need a utility like GIMP in order to edit these, change the colours and so on.

Both Nifskope and GIMP were free the last time I downloaded them (years ago).

There are also more specialised programs that enable you to make brand new meshes and textures, EG from a photograph of a real sword or suit of armour. These programs can be pretty expensive. There was a YouTube channel where a German guy (maybe Dutch? It's been a long time!) showed how to do this, luckily he made his videos in English.

Hope this helps.

:)

Anything is possible in the creation kit. It's just changing hair on a follower is unfortunately kind of complicated. Especially when you're dealing with someone else's creation. There are more than a few ways to do this and if you look at other custom followers most all do if differently. I'm not sure what follower you are using so it's kind of hard to point you in the right direction. Other than just giving you ways to figure it out yourself. The way I change hairstyles is from one follower I have called ... Keely The Fire Blade Follower. She has many hair styles and can give them to other followers. Unfortunately she seems to be gone. I was able to find a download for her but didn't think I should mention it as it is not on the Nexus and I have no clue why his work was removed ...

Also, you can do anything you wish to any mod. Modify it in anyway you want. As long as you keep it your own personal mod from then on. It can never be uploaded unless you have permission from the author. If you can not get that permission for what ever reason then you can not upload it.

Wow totally custom top to bottom. Do you have a hair style ready to go? ... Can you just take off them horns normally?

It looks like he went with a hair mesh he didn't put in the loose files. You will need to find that ...

Also, Looks like he renamed them horns the hair. Not sure if that is just a modified helmet or what.

Either way the files have been heavy modified and now you're playing by his rules. The norm will not work in this case.

Making the editor the only real way to change this.
